Walkerguy50: Hello all I found this interesting about depression and I want to share

Me: Hey God.

God: Hey John.

Me: My depression is going to destroy me, isn't it?

God: Yes.

Me: Wait - What?!

God: Unless you find it's purpose in your life.

Me: Purpose?! It has only one purpose: to reduce me into ashes.

God: That's not why you have depression. It's not there to kill you. You are meant to use it.

Me: Seriously, what are You talking about?! I'm getting mad and I'm about to stop listening.

God: That's your choice. Just like the choice you have when it comes to how you respond to your depression. You can either choose to let it control you or you can choose to learn from it to help other people.

Me: I can't help anybody! I can't even help myself! Are You that out of touch?! This never ending melancholy is a knife in my stomach! It's a weight on my heart! My brain is covered in a haunting fog! I can't escape it!

God: You aren't meant to escape it. You are meant to embrace it and then use what it teaches you to serve other people.

Me: What exactly have I been taught by feeling like this?

God: To love everybody you come in contact with because you don't know the battles that are taking place inside of them. Hasn't depression taught you that people are amazingly skilled at hiding their wounds from each other?

Me: Yeah, but-

God: Hush. My turn. For years you have obscured your own sadness from everybody - even yourself. Have you ever thought that maybe you are suffering through this to teach you empathy? To offer your love and compassion towards all people - even those whom you don't like.

Me: Wait, you're suggesting that my suffering is about reminding me that other people are suffering too?

God: Everybody suffers. It's one of the mile markers of the human experience. The problem is people get wrapped up in their own hurt to see it happening in others. I want you all to look past your own tears go wipe the face of somebody else. You know what the darkness feels like, so become a candle for another.

Me: I'm too broken to help anybody...

God: It's that brokenness inside of you that makes you the perfect person to serve. You may be lost but you'll be found in the giving of yourself to other people.

Me: I just want to quit feeling like this.

God: You'll find the peace you are seeking in helping other people find their own. Depression has afflicted you with profound distress - now use what you are going through to serve others.

Me: I'll need your help.

God: My love for you is a gift that I happily give.

Me: Alright.

God: But you know the best thing about gifts?

Me: What's that?

God: You're supposed to pass them on. They aren't for you to hoard. I share love with your broken heart so that you will share it with other people who feel the same way.

Me: I'm on it.

God: And I am in you.
