(99% of room chat is from players, so the bot is presumably scanning it all anyway.) # the "game starts now" message are a bit confusing when there's no "game" as such, just one question after another. you could just call everything "questions". # game messages in general could be pared down - with prompts and reminders and the mysterious bracketed (debug code?) numbers the bot takes a full page to get through one question, making it harder to chat about the answers. some of these lines could be omitted or combined. # when it said "Users in next game click @triviabot" i thought it was an instruction and i had to click the link every time to stay in the game! it took a while to realise that i didn't # the switching between red and black text is inconsistent - do a few messages just change the ongoing colour when they get printed? # i know moderation is a pain, but it would be great if the bot could take feedback from players on broken questions (eg. we could type !!broken when a broken question is up). some of them cut off halfway and are impossible to answer, or mention a picture which we can't see. you could either have the bot flag the question for your attention when it gets a !!broken command, or whitelist some trusted players (or look at their scores) and have their !!broken commands remove the question automatically from rotation. great bot, anyway, thanks for providing it and keeping it alive. FEISTY_MS_QUEEN: The !!play puts you in the trivia game. If you do not type that then the bot will not "see" your answers. So yes, the !!play is needed. !!leave is for those that want to leave the game but stay in the room and watch. Trivia itself is a game of nothing but questions and answers, hence "game". The reminders come between the questions. "Users in next game" will tell you which users are in the next round of questions. So if you are confused as to weather or not the bot sees you in the game you can find out that way. Switching between the font colors was to break things up and allow you to see more. When it is all one color it tends to blend too much together. The bot does take feedback, just like you are doing right now When there is a "broken" question just get the question and if it has a number to go with it and post it here or in mrhamster inbox and it will be looked at. He is the techy mod and is over the bots. I hope I have answered your question and ty for your feedback. If you I left anything out just inbox Hammy and he will get back to you when he can. And if I have gotten anything wrong he will correct it when he comes back online Thank you and have a wonderful day shamble in reply to FEISTY_MS_QUEEN: yeah, i understand how !!play works, i'm just curious if there's a technical reason why the bot can't be told to "see" everyone's comments as possible answers. it'd be a nice improvement for old and new players if it were possible. when combined with "users in next game click @triviabot", people are clearly getting confused about how to join the game and assuming the bot means "users who want to play the next game must click this link" when it means "to see the users in the next game click this link". (look at the comments on the "Users in the current game list /chat/room/trivia" blog post above this one, it's full of people being confused about how to join the game!) having everyone just join would solve all that. and sure, the trivia room is an endless 24hr game that never stops, which is why it's odd for the bot to keep saying "game starts now!" -- the game never stopped! i guess my main suggestion here is just to look over the game messages from the point of view of a new player who has no idea what is going on, and think about whether they could be clearer. it's an easy trap to fall into for any website or product, that because all the regulars know how it works, nothing needs changing. and it's an easy fix. (and i didn't know we could report bad questions! thanks!) TriviaBot has a new blog post: We need your questions to add to the database of questions that I use!!! MrHamster: I slowed down the bot. 30secs for hints and about 4 times that from the last hint to the answer is given. also one of the sources did a update which was causing the but to do resets more often. i am skipping that source for now and also raised the number of questions it takes before a reset. TriviaBot: Okay. My boss just told me and Helpbot to clean our rooms everyday moving forward at 5 AM. So, if there is a game going I will have to leave it in the middle and come back. No warning |
