t53busco: Today is a sad day for American Talk Radio!

Rush Limbaugh, the #1 Conservative talk show host for over 30 years, passed away.

He had been battling terminal lung cancer for over a year.
Rush was popular with millions & millions & millions of Americans.
He was witty, funny, often controversial.
He didn’t shy away from sensitive topics.
He questioned, criticized, even ridiculed persons, ( especially politicians and “celebrities “ ) institutions, and ideals he disagreed with.

He had strong Midwestern roots and said “out loud” what many of his listeners were thinking, but were AFRAID to express for fear of being called a “Racist, Sexist, Homophobe...”

He coined many phrases... such as “Low Information Voters” “Drive By Media” “Femi-Nazis “ “ Environmentalist Wackos” “Ditto Heads”
His critics were, at times, vicious with their criticism and out right hatred of him.

For example:
Wanda Sykes, a comedian, was once so upset with Rush saying he hoped then President Obama fails to implement his programs that she said “I hope his ( Rush Limbaugh’s) kidneys fail! (Google it if you don’t believe me)

Many companies, talk show hosts , critics ( especially politicians) etc tried to shame him off the air, run off the air with competing programs, boycotts...

BUT, the BEST long lasting legacy for Rush Limbaugh is the fact he had the freedom of speech to say controversial, unpopular statements, opinions, even jokes!

Even if you disliked EVERYTHING he said, be glad we still live in a country where controversial, unpopular, or even “hate speech” can’t be outlawed or punished.!

(Google Supreme Court cases that specifically protect what some persons categorize as hate speech.
I especially suggest “Matal v. Tam” to how the Court made a distinction between Hate SPEECH and a Hate CRIME)

May God bless and comfort his family in their time of grief.
