Around My Place XI

These are photos that I took on or around my property between June 20 and July 18, 2010. They were originally posted in my Picture Gallery, and then as space ran out, I moved then over here to this blog rather than simply deleting them to make space for new pictures. The comments shown below originally were attached to those photos. In some cases, the comments are disjointed. This is because as people delete their Wireclub accounts, their comments leave with them.

Picture #06: Growning walnuts on a Black Walnut tree
> terror_nova says July 04: I have never seen a walnut tree before. Cool!
> StuckInTheSixties says July 04: Some semi-interesting facts about Walnut trees: They generally come in two varieties: The Black Walnut, and the White Walnut. The Black Walnut makes a much nicer, prettier tree, but produces crappy nuts, nearly unusable. The White Walnut makes a less attractive, smaller tree, but has much bigger leaves, shaped differently, and produces really good nuts, the kind we all are familiar with as a food product. And finally, when the White Walnut is going to be used for producing those yummy nuts, the top half of a seedling is grafted to the bottom half of a Black Walnut, which has a much hardier rootstock which is much more resistent to root problems like disease, pests, parasites, molds, etc. You can see some pictures (#25-#27) of a dormant White Walnut orchard in this blog:

Picture #08: AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter flying over my house! (#1 of two)(Mt. George in background)
> StuckInTheSixties says July 10: As I was sitting here at my desk, working on the photos that you are looking at, I heard the sound of a helicopter over head, quite loud. The sound diminished as it moved away, but then, it returned louder this time, actually very loud. I grabbed the camera and walked outside. Circling over this area were two AH-1 Cobra attack helicopters! They made a couple more orbits, and then disappeared, flying off to the west. If you don't know what these aircraft are, they are specially designed to attack targets. The essentially have no other function other than to carry the pilot, the gunner and the weapons. They can't carry passengers. They can't carry cargo. So what in the heck were they doing circling over Napa Valley !?!?!?

Picture #19: Another busted fence (#1 of six)
> StuckInTheSixties says July 04; This series of six photos requires some explanation. Some time back, while driving into town, I came across a broken fence where a driver had gone too wide on a sharp turn, ran off the road and through the fence. It made for some curious pictures which I posted here in my Picture Gallery. As space ran short in the Gallery, as is my standard procedure, I moved those pictures over to a blog, titled Around Napa Valley VIII, Part One, and dated April 4, 2010:

http://www.wireclub.com/Blogs/StuckInTheSixties/166730

In May I was driving on the same road, and just a short distance from where I made those pictures, I came across yet another broken fence. This time the situation's different. In the first case, it was quite easy to see just what had happened, with a driver going wide on the turn and ripping out the fence.

Take a look at the above picture, and those that follow, and see if you can tell what happened. I'm puzzled by it. Note these facts:

First, this fence is at the end of the road, where the road ends at a stop sign. At first, I thought that a driver had run through the stop sign, tried to make the turn to the left, and run through the fence. But there's no skid marks on the pavement, and if you look the above picture, the signpost is right in the path a car would take if, indeed, it ran the stop sign, and went wide in an attempt to make a left turn.

In the following three pictures you can see that there is barely enough room for a car to squeeze past the signpost and run down the fence, but it would have to come in at an angle that doesn't seem to fit the layout of the streets, the intersection, the stop sign, and the sign post which you can see in this picture. It would appear that the car that broke this fence did one of three things, none of which makes any sense:

It was coming from what would be, relative to this picture, the left, and for some illogical reason, made a left turn across the oncoming lane and into the fence. That makes no sense.

It was coming from what would be, relative to this picture, the right, and for some illogical reason, made a sharp right turn off of the pavement and into the fence. Making this maneuver would require that the car was traveling VERY slowly to get around that sign post, and again, that makes no sense at all.

Finally, and what seems to be less illogical than either of those other two scenarios, the car was approaching the stop sign, and as it approached, swung left through the stop sign, making the turn, and then somehow made an abrupt, and very slow, right hand turn into the fence. Again, that just makes no sense.
> nekromancer07 says July 04: maybe asleep at the wheel?
> StuckInTheSixties says July 04: I don't think so. Whatever happened, it involved some sort of low-speed, sharp turning.
> Karma says July 05: My guess is: "It was coming from what would be, relative to this picture, the left, and for some illogical reason, made a left turn across the oncoming lane and into the fence." The driver (probably drunk) meant to turn onto the gated driveway (property owner?), misjudged and turned too soon and could have done so at a higher rate of speed.

> nekromancer07 says July 04: any hiking trails in them mountains?

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the hillside to the extreme right of that horizon (the one with the open, brownish area, just below that leaf in the picture) is part of Skyline Wilderness Park, which does have a network of trails for public access.

Pictures #30: A view to the south taken from a vantage point near where I live (#2 of two)
> Karma says July 05
I often wonder why, on these single-crop farms, they don't plant something between rows that will help to replenish the soil. I know they need to maneuver through the rows, but a cover crop like clover that reduces the need for fertilizer and pesticides and isn't harvested (except as fodder perhaps) seems doable. At least this is what we teach farmers in other countries.
> StuckInTheSixties says July 05: That happens during the winter months. Often it's mustard, which also looks really pretty. It gets plowed in, and works just like you describe. There's another plant I often see, but I don't know the name of it. And there's wildflowers, too. They all get recycled back into the soil. So does the trimmings and the thinned grapes. There seems to be little or no need for pesticides. The vines apparently aren't very tasty for pests.

> Karma says July 10: Great photo
> StuckInTheSixties says July 10: I wish the camera was able to capture more detail from the distance I was shooting from, because the artist was spectacularly attractive. She was wearing her hair tucked up into a cap, and she took her cap off, rearranged her hair, and tucked it back into the cap while I clicked away trying not to too much.
> StuckInTheSixties says July 11: By the way, for the record, although I wasn't blind to her presence, I wasn't sneaking pictures of the hot artist babe. I took a range of exposures of the entire tableau from three different vantage points, a procedure I nearly always use so that I can later select the best exposures for presentation. When I later examined the photos for selection, I also used one of them for an enlargement, which you see above. (laughs) I just don't wanna give the impression of being a pervy photo stalker!

Various Previously Posted Pictures III

As my Picture Gallery fills up and nears or reaches the maximum of two hundred images, rather than simply deleting older pictures in lieu of newer ones, I shift them over here to reside in blogs. This is a collection of various pictures and photos that don’t really fit in any of the specific categories I use for this purpose. The pictures date from January 4 to August 1, 2010.

I’ve also included the comments that were attached to them. Some of these comments will seem a bit disjointed because the continuity between comments has been interrupted as the people who left them deleted their accounts, taking the comments with them.

XXX Mother Goose

A couple days ago I read Lucid's "LOL not sure what to call this...." blog, with a few little Mother Goose rhymes that were "updated" in a ribald fashion. As I read those little couplets and chuckled, the idea came to me that those Mother Goose characters should ... cough cough ... get together.

Technically, it's a terrible poem, executed poorly, but what the f&@% ...

Jack and Jill were bored one day
And decided to gather their friends
The wanted to throw a little party
Just to see who would attend

Little Miss Muffet was one of those there
Along with Little Boy Blue
Simon arrived with a Pieman’s pie
Georgie Porgie brought six-packs of brew

Mary had left her lamb at home
And Little Bo Peep came along
They both were already a little bit drunk
As they joined the partying throng

The music was playing and spirits were high
As the people got into the booze
Miss Muffet fell off her chair onto the floor
In the bathroom, Blue pissed on his shoes

Now Jack and his Jill, they were swingers
As all of their guests were aware
The flirtations were flying around the room
And a longing for sz^ plainly there

Bo Peep climbed up on the bar
And proceeded to sexily dance
Her skirt flew up as she did a quick twirl
Bo Peep had on no underpants

Mary and Jill and Miss Muffet
Climbed up on the bar with Bo
They dance around shaking their titties
And flashing the guys down below

Then Mary and Jill started making out
And Muffet was groping at Bo
Jack, Blue, Simon and Georgie
Had bulges beginning to grow

Then all of the girls decided to strip
Their clothes were just flung on the floor
The guys were really enjoying the show
As they laughed and shouted for more

All of the girls crossed the room to the couch
And proceeded to mob Miss Muffet
Jill sucked her right tit, while Bo sucked the left
And Mary went down on her tuffet

While the guys were enjoying the s&* show
A suggestion was made by Georgie
“Hey you guys, I have an idea …
… why don’t we just have us an o&*z?”

Bo came over and unzipped his pants
And proceeded to give him some head
The guys all got naked and joined with the girls
The party was moved to the bed

As Simon lay down he was sucked on by Jill
And Mary sat down on his face
Little Boy Blue wasn’t little any more
As he licked Muffet’s tingly place

Georgie licked Bo as Bo sucked on Jack
And all in the o~$@ were moaning
Jill looked around and saw Jack with Muffet
She saw they were furiously boning

She climbed up on Simon and sat on his cw@y
Sliding it deep in her quim
Mary came over and sucked on her tits
As she rode up and down on him

Blue and Georgie were with Bo Peep
And they each took turns as she smiled
She rode on Boy Blue like a cowgirl
Then George f^wyw* her doggy style

The partners were changing rapidly
They engaged in furious f^%z@z$
And probing and groping and grabbing and poking
And licking and flicking and sucking

Finally they paired off as couples
And got down to some serious pleasure
They all began boinking in synchronized time
Which strained the bedframe in good measure

The eight of them orgasmed at the same time
The bedframe broke and gave way
The mattress, the bed, and eight naked people
Crashed down, and to their dismay

They broke through the floor and continued to fall
Then landed with a loud boom
Right in the middle of the now stunned downstairs
Neighbors’ living room

A mother with two young children were there
Shocked by the sight they could see
As the dust slowly settled, their open mouthed stares
At a pile of naked people and debris

The mom had been reading to her two young kids
And now with confusion profuse
The book fell to the floor from the mother’s hands
Twas entitled “Mother Goose”

A Question Of Logic Based On A Real-Life Situation (Sort Of A Quiz)

If you don't want to see the comments of other readers and their replies for this little puzzle before you read it for yourself, go to the list you see to the left and click "August 2010."

This is based upon a real life situation, one which I am involved in. My neighbors and I share an “easement.” For those that don’t know what an easement is, the dictionary defines it this way:

Limited right of use of property; a limited right to make use of a property owned by another, e.g. a right of way across the property.

Here’s the situation: My neighbors and I have properties that border one another. Some of us have properties that do not border a public road. So in order to get in and out of our property, there is a paved private road that we all share, the “easement.” Each of the four residences using this easement has its own private driveway that branches off of the easement, leading to our own garages and homes. (Those driveways are separately maintained by each resident, and the maintenance of them does not figure into this situation.)

Like any other road, our easement requires upkeep. Occasionally, as it ages and wears out, the paved surface needs minor repairs, etc. Rarely, it needs to be re-paved, and have another layer of pavement put on it. At this time, we all agree that it could really use a re-paving.

Okay, that’s the real-life situation. Now here are some numbers, adjusted a little bit to simplify things conceptually.

Residence A has a driveway 150 feet from the public road.

Residence B has a driveway 175 feet from the public road.

Residence C has a driveway 250 feet from the public road.

Residence D has a driveway at the very end of the easement, 325 feet from the public road.

Question: How would you go about dividing up the cost of re-paving the easement?

(There are a number of ways to do this, but only one logical way.)

a few more thoughts on veronica's departure

veronica is many things, but if there is one characteristic that stands out, it would have to be her mysterious quality. the closest we ever came to actually seeing her face was her caricature of herself that she computer-painted. veronica is a true enigma.

her blogs were strange and wonderful. her comments were nearly always written in the third person. who else would use the principals of thermodynamics as an analogy of her personal life? she's obviously super-intelligent, and well read. is there any other young irishwoman in wireclub who would know who daniel ellsberg is? i doubt it.

so after a few days of contemplation, i'm accepting her abrupt departure as an appropriate facet of her enigmatic inscrutable persona.

veronica, wherever you are, whatever you're doing, i hope you know that there is a little place in my heart that is yours. if you open the door to it, ukulele music will come out, playing a beatles song.

veronica has apparently deleted ...

Jeez ...
