Sir Loin: Wow! Rock and roll 😀 A swarm of earthquakes hit NZ overnight, 7.4 which woke us at 0230 then a force 8 centred near Kermadec islands. Many aftershocks and tsunami alerts. Frantically checking friends and family who live on the coast. Expecting evacuations to be ordered so getting the spare room tidy and beds made 😀
TwistedGoddess: I felt a California earthquake and watched cans fall of shelves people yelling for me to get to cover and I asked yeah like where we are in a store.
Sir Loin: Amazing how fast news travels these days, I'm getting emails from USA, Europe, Middle East and Asia checking we're alright. Willow, earthquakes really aren't that bad unless the building you're in collapses on you. We treat them as an everyday event, which they are... usually 100+ a day but these ones were quite strong. A M8 would devastate most cities in other countries but here we mostly build single story homes of timber which flexes with movement and high rise buildings have tricky foundations which absorb shock a bit like car suspension.
Stay safe, Sir!
