Help For Hosts and Hostesses

Something I came across that I'm borrowing to share with other PG room hosts. It makes sense and is something worth reading if you host a room. Inconsistent host behavior is a quick way to kill the spirit of a good chat room.

The role of a host is to help make the room as pleasant as possible for the majority of chatters.
Being a good host takes a little bit of thoughtfulness and an even temperament, as well as knowing the Wire Rules.
Booting people should be a last resort, except in cases of known ‘room wreckers’ – that is, the trolls who enjoy sending rooms to R rating by being obscene in chat.
For the sake of the majority of good chatters, we need to be consistent and friendly so they do not fear unfair booting.
This means that our personal values and preferences are irrelevant. We all need to stick to the Wire Rules and the wishes of the room owner.

Tips for our hosts

• LEARN THE RULES. Make sure you know the latest Wire Rules which are here: https://www.wireclub.com/about/rules
Make sure to check with the room owner about any extra rules for the room.

• BE PROFESSIONAL. Wire Rules apply to all, so be prepared to warn and /or boot even someone you like if they misbehave. Try to ignore petty baiting or insults and rise above annoying behaviour. Often the chat can be redirected and a pesky chatter will get bored and leave. If you act professionally chatters will support you and feel comfy in the room.

• BE FAIR. Usually people (especially newbies) should be given a warning and a chance to behave before being booted.
Most reasonable folks will tow the line once things are explained to them. Look at the CONTEXT of what is being said and how it is affecting the chat.
For example, one use of the word ‘sex’ in light conversation or a joke is not a problem and is certainly PG. However if chat goes on about having ‘sex’ in grossly described scenarios or becomes explicit, then a warning should be given immediately and repeat offenders booted.

• GIVE CLEAR WARNINGS. Simply saying you don’t like something is not enough. You need to name the offending chatter and specify the thing that is breaking a rule or spoiling the general chat. Tell them the thing they are doing which is against Wire Rules, and tell them they will be removed if they continue.

• CHAT THAT RISKS THE ROOM BEING MADE ‘R’ (and therefore dying)
Such words or chat must be addressed FAST. Warn and then boot any further offenders.
Examples are any chat to do with incest, anal sex, pegging, fisting, whore, pussy, etc….
Any words which are auto censored by Wire.

• OTHER CHAT THIS ROOM DOES NOT ALLOW.
Anything relating to paedophilia.
Talk encouraging excessive violence.
Any hate talk or discrimination.
Talk promoting the use of hard drugs (that is, anything other than marijuana).
Language which offends the majority of chatters.

• PMs. What happens in PM is generally not the business of hosts. Chatters are responsible for managing PMs and are free to block and/or report offenders, and can also change their PM to friends only. Some chatters enjoy complaining in the room about the PMs they receive. Advise them to block or change their privacy settings.

• PHOTOS. Wire Rules explain what is prohibited in photos. Hosts cannot be responsible for checking all profile photos, but should address any offending photos they see or are told about.

• AGE. A while ago, Wire Admin went through a phase of removing chatters with obviously fake ages, like 119. Then they stopped. Since they permit people to have such silly ages, it is hardly a host’s job to worry about profile ages. We cannot prove people’s ages anyway. However, in the case of people who admit they are under 18, they must be removed immediately. Accusations by other chatters cannot be acted on unless evidence is supplied. For people who look under 18 but their profile says they are 18 or over, the hosts should check with each other and take a vote on whether to boot the chatter.

• EXPLAIN. For the sake of our chatters and promoting a good impression of the room as fair, try to explain why people are being booted. Preferably before they are booted, but if not possible, after. Chatters do get nervous when they see people being removed and they have no idea why.

• WHEN IN DOUBT. For chat that clearly breaks the Wire Rules or our own room rules, we know to boot the chatter if they will not listen to a warning. But the owner and the hosts need to agree on how tolerant to be with things that we aren’t sure whether or not break the rules.
Suggestions:
➢ Assume innocent until proven guilty.
➢ Try to ask the chatter what they meant.
➢ How is their behaviour affecting the room?
➢ Politely ask them to change their language or topic.
➢ If the behaviour is merely annoying, remind the room they can ignore or block the pest.
➢ Boot them if you think it is damaging the chat or risking the rating of the room.
➢ You can always take a screen shot to help clarify if you are questioned about the incident later.
➢ Go to the host meeting room and ask other hosts for their opinions
