rak03252: well...i doubt this will change the world...or even anyone's mind...but....can't hurt either might not be one of my best poetic structures, but that happens, when written in anger and frustration....
shaftyma57: Well said, something has to happen, to much killing going on for no reason, young innocent kids, it's terrible. Not feeling safe is not good, people will be afraid to leave their homes. This is USA an it should not be this way!!!!!!!!
SweetSmileCanada: great piece of work; sad but true.. The following is not popular in chat rooms I have noticed, but please allow me....
In Canada: Gun ownership is also relatively high in Canada, at about thirty-five firearms per hundred residents (ranking fifth globally), but the country does not struggle with a similar level of gun violence. As in the United States, Canada’s national government sets gun restrictions that the provinces, territories, and municipalities can supplement. And like its southern neighbor, Canada’s gun laws have often been prompted by gun violence. In 1989, a student armed with a semiautomatic rifle killed fourteen students and injured more than a dozen others at a Montreal engineering school. The incident is widely credited with driving major gun reforms that imposed a twenty-eight-day waiting period for purchases; mandatory safety training courses; more background checks; bans on large-capacity magazines; and bans or greater restrictions on military-style firearms and ammunition. In 2020, after a gunman killed twenty-two people in Canada’s deadliest mass shooting.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a ban on “assault-style” firearms..
SweetSmileCanada: * Sadly every country has raging lunatics and mental illness. I'm not implying that the above works 100% but its a good guide to perhaps start with. I don't want my grand children or anyones children to be in a school armed with guards (with guns) or locked doors. They are innocent children let's go after the criminal and the gun laws.
Moonlaker007: I get the frustration. However guns will never go away. No law will ever stop law breakers. Sadly, wishing guns away is like wishing we could return to childhood. A nice thought, but not practical. Acknowledging this, I would fully support the citizenry owning guns to protect themselves from the law breakers. Given the power of being the only ones to carry guns, both criminals and government would be corruptible. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
rak03252: yes indeed...and tho the original intention has been convoluted, still a necessary evil of the land...and while i do not own any fire arms..the thought that i should get one to protect myself from gun owners has crossed my mind
might not be one of my best poetic structures, but that happens, when written

RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS ©
by rak
I think all those asleep
need to be woken
a bullet is not
some free pass token
too many guns
in the hands of the ones
that see humans
as targets for fun
knock on the wrong door
make a wrong turn
more guns than people
what more must you learn
if this don’t make you sick
what will
a license to own guns
is not a license to kill
is there a test
well it’s just my guess
too easy for anyone
to own a gun
you don’t have the right
tho you think you might
too easy to say
let my gun lead the way
more people carrying
no permit needed
no lessons learned
no warnings heeded
it exceeds the intent
of right to bear arms
don’t think, just shoot
your right to cause harm
guns in the hands
of racists and bigots
of children and old folk
bullets like water,
flowing from spigots
arm everybody
so it’s a fair fight
shoot anything
that moves in the night
protect the fetus
but not once it’s born
the right to bear arms
shoot first,
then mourn

your writing, RAK. Wish I could express myself that well.
