always nice to play pretend.....sometimes,
things are too real

REALM OF PRETEND©

this is the part
where all things
must end
and then we go back
to the realm of pretend
the reapers
and keepers
would never extend
a hand to a friend
in the realm
of pretend


and this is the part
where the good guys lose
in the realm of pretend
where one never
can choose
they take what they want
you must pay your dues
in the realm of pretend
you just stay confused


this is the part
where the fake
becomes real
in the realm of pretend
where you can’t seal the deal
you’re not even sure
what it is
that you feel
in the realm of pretend
where the visitors squeal


and this is the part
that becomes the last straw
in the realm of pretend
what is it you saw
no winners
no losers
call it a draw
in the realm of pretend
you watch the ice thaw

this is the part
with all things the same
in the realm of pretend
no one needs a name
there are no more rules
this isn’t a game
in the realm of pretend
who’s left to blame

and this is the part
when the lost
can’t be found
in the realm of pretend
they wander around
heads in a spin
eyes to the ground
in the realm of pretend
there’s no
homeward bound


this is the part
you’ve been dreading most
in the realm of pretend
that extends
coast to coast
the living are dead
the dead are a ghost
in the realm of pretend
from pillar to post

and this is the part
of sadness and pain
in the realm of pretend
where the sane
go insane
all the brains
have been drained
and the dragons
are slain
in the realm of pretend
where all shall remain
