PyroclasticFlo: maybe you're smoking some bad stuff, wiz b/c i don't even recognize you anymore. i don't know if you're truly obtuse or being deliberately so but you've totally ignore nuances of my side of the argument. and why you had to drag our argument out on the public forum i can't fathom but it's skanky move.

PyroclasticFlo: and just fyi, wiz. i deleted my posts from your thread b/c they weren't productive. i valued our friendship and some of my posts were unfair to you. i tried a different tact, more conciliatory, but that wasn't good enough. i'm sad to have lost your friendship but i won't be bullied.

Nicotina: In the USA chance are a white child will be born into a family that has a decent education and lives in a relatively safe community whereas chances are that a black child will be born into a family that has less financial opportunities and is more likely to be a victim of violence. Of course there are many white people in disadvantaged situations also. The point is, that if a child is born white then have a distinct advantage in our society that they did not earn. That is the essence of White Privilege. It does not mean that white people are inherently racist/bigoted but it does mean that many black children have to work that much harder to reach a level of financial and social equality to those who were born white.
If we are to aspire to equality then we need to recognize the challenges others face.

Wasted Wizard: Its racist and inaccurate because there are white people not in usa who dont have any privilege. You are already like basing this off white peoples race and dont see how you yourself are saying a racist statement, because on "chances are" they will be better off being white. That is not the case for all white people. Are u saying it is the case for all white people in usa or on the planet be clear

Nicotina: Also... I’m a Brit and damn right the British benefitted from the slave trade. Brits literally kidnapped and sold people of colour for profit. Don’t you dare pretend that Brits were not complicit in human trafficking.

The simple fact of the matter is that in the USA and Canada also, that those who have more melanin face obstacle that those with less melanin.

Wasted Wizard: Ok so just usa... So with tht statement ur sayin all white people have this privilege, u said chances are earlier, but even so u should understand Ur basing this on a generalisation which is no different then a right wing trump racist. And futher more none of u direct the problem at the real people who have power the rich by saying white privilege u blaming poor people who got nothing to do with this u think white people not grow up in hoods? And dont deal with racial bias it doesn't mean u can generalise a whole race from this. Yeh melanin so what shade does the privilege stop at 😂 when i tan do people treat me bad? Or do i get more privileged the whiter i get wtf man you need to stop generalising people based on shade of skin no matter if they black or white

If the stars fell
If the stars fell: i personally get sick of being blamed for shit i had nothing to do with, and have led a life of discrimination for who i am (though not necessarily for the color of my skin, with the exception of the current day) i have never in my entire life felt priviliged for the color of my skin, yes ive been harassed by police, yes ive had guns pointed at me before... and yes im against painting an entire race a particular way simply for the color of their skin... it IS racist, whether you think its true or not is mostly irrelevant.

If the stars fell: i would also add that i see far more anti white discrimination than i do toward literally any other group of people.... and its openly socially accepted, so ya know... thats a problem

SaturnBat in reply to Nicotina: I know it does not diminish the evil of slavery...slavery is wrong and it still happens in other ways around the world today. But you are and so is a lot of other people putting all this "slavery owned business solely on the white Americans and other "white" races" When as Wasted has stated a billion times its the "wealthy elites" that are the ones that are making all this happen and separating us. The last thing they want for us to realize that and stand together against them. Then they got a real problem.

SaturnBat: We have to also remember who sold certain slaves to others. There are many empires and kingdoms and tribes that have sold their own people as slaves. Its this pride we have that makes us look down on others as less than us even when they are the same race! Its the class you are in...lower, middle, upper, that truly separates us. Saying this though I'm not ignoring that there is discrimination and racism but why is that a issue? Look at the law and who has enforced them. OUR GOVERMENT. The Elitist's. Let's fight them not each other.

PyroclasticFlo: what an abuse victim certainly doesn't need to hear while their nursing their black eye and dabbing their bloody lip is ... " it's no big deal. other people get beat up. even i got beat up. stop whining. get over it." and that's pretty much what the protests against the protests amount to. it may not racist but it's definitely selfish, that some white people can't, not for one damn minute, listen to the voice of pain coming from someone else.

Nicotina in reply to PyroclasticFlo: That is a very valid point. There are people in pain, who need to be heard, who need to have their pain acknowledged. If you say that slavery is evil then surely you see how the lasting effects of slavery on society is also evil.

If the stars fell
If the stars fell: you expect us to have an excessive amount of concern for your well being while having zero regard for ours, and not only that but completely disregard any point of view from a white person, particularly as a white male.We have no voice, we dont even have a seat at the table... and our concerns and well being is dismissed out of hand by poisoning peoples minds with the notion that we already have all the power therefore our suffering isnt a priority.

Their well being isnt any more important than ours.

It also implies that black people are incompetent children that have no agency or personal accountability for their own success or failures. The perpetual victims that can never be appeased regardless of how much you concede. I personally also find that racist...

how many times does it has to be said that we should treat people as individuals based on their individual merit? it seems like it should be obvious... but people still go out of their to set themselves apart from the masses, self segregating then demanding some perceived "Equality" while thinking they deserve constant preferential treatment.

It's bullshit, and its not the path to equality, and the more we constantly set ourselves apart with stupid labels the harder and longer the road will be.

Nicotina in reply to If the stars fell: If you feel as though you have no voice, no seat at the table, that your pain is seen as inconsequential then you are starting to understand how many black people have felt for years. No one is dismissing your pain, no one is saying that you don't count, no one is saying that you are personally responsible for all racism. What is being asked of you is to acknowledge the pain of others without making the situation about yourself.

yes, redlining, racial profiling, stop and frisk, more arrests for minor crimes, harsher sentencing ... all bullshit that stupidly labeled people of color routinely endure. and in the USA the road is 400 of years long.
