Love is not Perfection

To all those who want love: If you're looking for perfection, stop looking.

Love isn't perfection. Love is about finding someone whose strengths compliment your weaknesses. It's about finding someone who isn't perfect, but flawed in the places where our own strengths can support them. It's an equal partnership of imperfections, and complimenting each other so that neither of you are weak, but strong because of each other.

Love isn't perfection. Love is the constant willingness to lower our guards, even though we know that it may hurt. It's about getting back up after your last fall, and allowing yourself the chance to fall again, so that next time you get back up, you can be proud that you did. It's about stepping forward, when the world is pushing you back.

Love isn't perfection. Love is accepting of human faults. It's about accepting that someone has a past, but it doesn't define who they are. Love is the thousands of imperfections and, without judgement, accepting them.

Love is imperfection and unconditional acceptance. And that is what makes us beautiful. That's what makes humanity beautiful. The imperfections in a broken world, coexisting and strengthening each imperfection.

If you're looking for perfection, stop looking outside. Start looking at your friends. Start looking at the eyes of your children, your siblings, your parents and loved ones. Start looking at every soldier, marine, airmen, and sailor. Start looking within, instead of outside.

Stop looking for Perfection.
Start looking for Love.
