Current RoomsFriends | A Bit mad, but not too much, thank the Lord/Lady! Maybe because a Celt! English say we're mad! Maybe we are! Grand Way to be mad! Maybe because Poet and Writer! Mildly Bipolar! 'Hypomanic' when high, so markedly eccentric or 'different,' but not 'Manic', which would be full-blown Insanity, thus mental Hospital! Lots of Folks seriously suppose just -seeming- different is some Kind of unforgivable Crime! It's not! Celt with some other Ingredients as far as I know, which isn't that far! No such Thing as 'pure Race' here! Pure? Pas moi! Only know recent Ancestry: just the Surface of it! Why, Thank you, young Man! Nice to be appreciated! Most People seem more interested in Stuff that really matters, eg Football, Pop Music & Celebrities! lol Eh, what's this? Did I read that right?? Am I even being called -sane-??? Never happened before! lol In the Words of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Meldrew, ''"I don't believe it!!!" JoelBklyn: Yes, Sane Linguist -- most people do indeed seem interested in stuff that "really matters". Confidentially (and for the life of me) I've never been able to grasp the maddening thrill gained from watching a pack of adult men ramming one another head on, while another man is racing at breakneck speed to avoid the savage hordes hell bent on preventing him from carrying an inflated piece of rubber to some distant goal line. Confidentially (and for the life of me), I've never been able to swoon over today's ubiquitous pop music, whose melodies, at best, are as banal as all hell...whose non-adventurous harmonies are threadbare beyond belief...whose source of inspiration for their sleazy, puerile lyrics derive from the lower end of the human digestive tract. Confidentially (and for the life of me), I cannot pay more than scant attention to the overinflated, self-aggrandizing, tantrum-fraught egos that inform the behavior of so many of today's scam-besieged celebrities, who dance in and out of marriages the way some of us less disciplined deviants scurry from one glory hole to another. I ain't that smart! View all 9 posts MadLinguist1: Major Attlee (1945-51) did some serious good Things, eg give us the NHS in 48: free Healthcare for everyone, for the first Time in British History. His Reward? To be voted out in 51 by the Great British Public! (Post deleted by MadLinguist1 ) MadLinguist1: Some last longer than others. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Walpole, lasted from 1721 to 1742. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Salisbury managed 13+ Years. Thatcher did 11, from 1979 to 1990. View all 4 posts MadLinguist1: My Name is indeed James! That's actually Scottish in Origin, from Scots Gaelic Seumas, from Latin Jacomus, a Variant of Jacobus, ie Jacob (Ya'aqov), the Old Testament Original of James. In real Life my Surname is also Scots Gaelic. So I'm possibly not as English as I normally sound. As my Mother was Welsh, I'm definitely not so English! My normal English is due to being born and brought up in England. |
