Because, upon an updated catalog of observable objects and their orbits*, it was agreed upon that Pluto no longer fit the class of planet but of dwarf planet (like Ceres); even making it a special class of dwarf planet with an orbit beyond that of Neptune (like Eris). Sure, selling school books was the primary motivator for this, tho. Not because science instructs us to update our classifications as new information is codified. #yousowokedawg |
