I for example had the Pfizer Vaxes, first one on the 9th of Dec , 2nd day of the UK rollout and my 2nd on the 30th of Dec due to the level of risk we are exposed to as we are working directly treating patients with Covid . In contrast , the most commonly prescribed Female Contraceptive Pill has a Blood Clot linked rate of 5- 12 cases per 10,000 users after a years use of the pill.
That's 500-1,200 per Million. That kind of puts the risk of the AZ Vax into some sort of framed reference .

XHuntressX: I have a friend who got the Moderna Vaccine...and is now Paralyzed from it. It did something to their central nervous system and now the signals from brain to legs...No longer work. They have no recourse to have this reaction treated either...because this Vaccine is labeled as EU ( Emergency Use ) it is not FDA approved! What this means...Is my friend now has to cover every expense that arises from this reaction...out of their own pocket!! The Vaccine companies...have zero culpability for people who receive it while it is EU. So they now have to pay for all medical docs fees, labs, Imaging...Wheelchair All by themselves...with absolutely 0 help from the Vaccine manufacturers. So people are getting harmed....while Vaccine companies make billions in revenue from this! Also you should be aware....They felt fine too after the 1st and 2nd doses...just a sore arm and some tiredness.. Then a few weeks later....they were paralyzed....and again...News is not reporting this!!! So I think this should be a individual personal choice....whether or not to receive this thing while it is EU and not FDA approved. Just because you feel it is the right choice for you....doesn't mean it is a right choice for someone else....cause right now...My friend is wishing they NEVER got that vaccine....because it has altered their quality of life!!!

Luviissa in reply to XHuntressX: Hello to you. Very sorry to read of your friend's Paralysis Hun. Reading quickly through your post, am I correct in thinking that this was definitely a Neurological Paralysis rather than any as yet undiagnosed Physical cause ?
I do know that here in the UK, the Moderna Vaccine was given the final authority for full use by the JCVI (Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation) last week to be used in conjunction with the Pfizer and AZ Vax as part of the UK Vaccination programme.
I am currently in my car about to enter my hospital to start my shift here but in my break I will contact one of our Hospital Senior Clinical Pharmacists and the Duty Registrar in our large Neurology Dept to see whether they have come across such an extreme and life changing reaction to the Moderna Vaccine.

ClassicCarTunes: I am a heart patient. I had to really think about whether I would want to get the vaccination. The idea of having a wrecked life afterwards is not something I care to ponder but I also do not want to be a carrier of the virus either. The idea that I could cause someone to die by being in a closed space and pass COVID to someone's dad or mom bothers me.

Thus this morning I will get the first of two Pfizer shots. I could die of a heart attack tomorrow anyway so for me getting the shot just makes sense. I am sorry if others are having severe reactions. From the case tests last year there were no reports of anyone being paralyzed. I am sure it can happen.

There are insects in this world that if they bite you can kill you within hours. If I lived in fear of insects I would be a wreck. I think that big thing right now is to have resolve, know the facts but there is risk-taking either way you go.

If I decided to not get the vaccine I would definitely be wearing a mask indoors until I hear that the the virus risk is over. As that could take some time I would be wearing a mask for a couple of years I think.

Or move to Gilligan's Island

The fear factor can cause severe anxiety and can lead to a ruined life as well. Fight fear with faith! Dont cave into the fear being pumped out by the media! Avoid the news if you have to ...

Luviissa in reply to ClassicCarTunes: Hi and absolute respect to you for your attitude and I hope today's Vaccination went well for you. I too had the Pfizer and only experienced localised soreness, which is to be expected in any Intramuscular injection. Best wishes to you for the future

NawtySpankableWench, I contacted both the HCP I mentioned in my previous post.
The Hospital Senior Clinical Pharmacist replied that they have received no data at all about the possibility of Paralysis from either Neurological or Physical causes related to the receiving of the Moderna Vaccine.
The Role of a Hospital Senior Clinical Pharmacist is primarily and solely that of Medicinal Safety. They do not dispense or prescribe. They advise as regards safety and side and counter indications of Medicines used within our cluster of large hospitals and satellite Healthcare Facilities within our City and area.
As the Moderna Vaccine was only approved last week by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) here in the UK and was only offered as an alternative vaccine from last week initially in Wales, any data would be absolutely current.
That approval would not have been granted if data from countries where the Moderna Vaccine has already been widely administered such as the US, had indicated that there was any possibility of the type of Profound Paralyse sadly experienced by your friend.
I received a quick reply from the Duty Registrar Neurologist within our large Neurological Dept and he expressed considerable doubt that the Moderna Vaccine would cause such Paralysis based on how the Vaccine actually works Physiologically. Every Vaccine works in a different way within the body and dependant on the intended Medical Efficacy of a vaccine. Now certain vaccines can have profound effects Neurologically such as the Vaccine for Japanese Encephalitis but that is because Japanese Encephalitis actually attacks Neurologically and it's high mortality rate is primarily due to extreme swelling and inflammation within the brain.
I sincerely hope that you friend receives a full diagnosis of the reason for their paralysis and that any paralysis is either temporary or of such a type that a legal route can be pursued to aid in the funding of any treatment necessary and to provide as comfortable a life as possible.
Best wishes to you both.

Srchng4Truth: I took the Pfizer vaccine and had no significant effects other than about 24 hours of pain in my shoulder where the shots were administered.

Nawty: In the paperwork I was given, it talks of a Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program. From the form: "The Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP) is a federal program that may help pay for costs of medical care and other specific expenses of certain people who have been seriously injured by certain medicines or vaccines, including this vaccine. Generally, a claim must be submitted to the CICP within one (1) year from the date of receiving the vaccine. To learn more about this program, visit www.hrsa.gov/cicp/ or call 1-855-266-2427."

swtnibbles3: Hunty, see below for a great example of how well our system works here in acting quickly regarding adverse reactions. Currently the J&J is being suspended. This was posted by an epidemologist. Currently the locations here in NYS are all calling and reaching out to those scheduled, to get theminto the queue for Moderna or Phizer. Th system does work.

&J Vaccine Pause
Today, out of an abundance of caution, J&J vaccines were paused in the US. On a personal note, I received the J&J vaccine.๐Ÿ˜Š Let me help you sift through these headlines and hopefully calm some fears you might have.
โœ… 7 million doses of the J&J vaccines have been administered. Of those, 6 people developed a rare blood clot. Key things to keep in mind:
1. All six recipients were women between the ages of 18 and 48.
2. All clots occurred between days 6 to 13.
3. This is comparable to what was observed with the clots seen after AstraZeneca vaccines in the UK. Those were 4 out of 1 million people, all women between the same ages, and occurred between days 6 to 28 after the vaccine. The J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines are both the same adenovirus type (instead of the mRNA vaccine types) - so, that's why I'm comparing them.
4. These are very, very rare and the pause is part of due diligence with vaccine trials and roll-out. Identifying these events and pausing after 6 people shows that the public health vaccine surveillance system in the US is working. Picking out these 6 events out of the 7 million doses that have already been administered should signal to us that our systems are working.
5. I do not want to downplay these events. But, they do need to be put into context of the overall risk.
- Blood clots associated with COVID-19 are MUCH higher (see the graphic). 6 out of a million with the vaccine versus 165,000 with COVID-19. The risk is much higher if you actually get COVID.
-The risk of clots with birth control pills or smoking is also much higher (see the graphic).
6. Tomorrow the CDC and FDA will jointly examine possible links in a meeting with the outside advisory committee.
I know many of you have questions about what you should do if you already received the J&J vaccine. Should you monitor for symptoms? Are the clots only within the first 2 weeks? Should you get another one if you're between those ages and a woman? I do expect those recommendations to come tomorrow after the meeting. I'll keep you updated.
Remember correlation does not equal causation. I hope this post helps squash some of your fears. Many of you are already at an anxious point in the pandemic and I bet these headlines do not help. Stay encouraged, friends. Remember the big picture and the system is working.

As for the Johnson and Johnson issues that were just discovered, these are so minimal and with such a small group of demographics it gives me renewed confidence in our system that we are being transparent and getting work out as quickly as possible when these problems crop up.
