delicateviking: while I think the Ukrainians need help Im also aware that this isnt some middle eastern despot or Afghani extremists theyre up against ... historically , Russia has been ruthless when it comes to sacrificing its own soldiers . I wonder how people here would feel when theyre sons and husbands start coming home in bags after ten years of Afghanistan ? Im just saying be careful ... the Mujahadeen made Russia pull out when they were properly armed , maybe the Ukranians would benefit from the same largesse ?

Sunny B Blessed in reply to KarenBigRed: Sometimes, staying silent and "not taking a side" is taking a side. Allowing evil to prosper without speaking out against it, is actually taking a side.

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I did not speak out;
I was not a Jew.
When they came for me, there was no one left to speak out.

PumpkinMoondust in reply to Sunny B Blessed: I do love this passage, for lack of a better word, you just posted. I post alot of change. org links to hopefully get people to sign these petitions. One day, I posted one regarding human trafficking going on in this country. Someone on my friend list commented basically, 'That's terrible! I'm not gonna sign it, but that's terrible!' So I asked her why she wouldn't sign if she thinks it's so terrible. Her reply was that she doesn't live in this country and doesn't even know the trafficked person.

The whole saying so and so must be a Trump supporter because of such and such...that, I don't get. At all.

andreabeach90: Karen, like you, I make it a practice to not discuss politics on wire, wire is an escape from the grind of everyday life. However, there are times when certain comments are so ridiculous that they warrant a reply.

Sunny's comments are such. They are at best a total reach as Satanic stated and tbh I find the comment ignorant and offensive.

One of Sunny's comments: "But notice, none of them say openly that they support Ukraine. Their silence is deafening."

As I stated earlier, I support Trump and of course I am praying that the Ukraine is victorious over Putin and his thugs. I know many other Trump supporters who feel the same way and not one is silent about being on the Ukraine's side. I know of no one who is supporting Putin. NO ONE.

I'm done, No more political comments or replying to nonsense statements. This is Wire.

attydallas3: Wow .. I guess, after having learned the geography of Ukraine (i.e. Poland borders it on the west) and that they call themselves the "Cossack nation" (it is mentioned several times in their national anthem ), that very likely my Russian grandfather (dad of my dad) was, specifically, Ukrainian. I had suspected as much, and ancestry.com DNA results seem to confirm that is the part of the "Russia" area that I have in my genes. My grandfather was not alive when I was born, but dad told me the story of how his dad was a Cossack (mounted soldier) in the czar's army (old Russia). When the Bolshevik revolution started and they started winning the war quite crushingly, he beat it "across the border into Poland" where he met my grandmother, who had moved there from Germany (they married, emigrated to the U.S. and lived happily ever after ). Dad never told me more than that about his parents. I have noticed that whenever I see pics of Ukrainian people, I do see a resemblance somewhat, esp. w. the gals, as though we could have been siblings.

So let us be proud, stand and sing (for those who can speak the language):

attydallas3 in reply to attydallas3: Just checked online and it is absolutely amazing how many videos have been posted online since the invasion of various performances of Ukraine's national anthem, on all kinds of instruments and by persons of all ethnicity and nationalities, inside the country and elsewhere around the world. Even tutorials on how to play it on various instruments for those who want to join in. What an explosive show of solidarity .. Here is a sweet video which was actually made several years ago, but shows people informally singing it in public in a very loose English translation .. At the end there is a touching interview with some of them as to what their perosnal background stories are ..

attydallas3 in reply to attydallas3: Well, that's interesting, Satansbabe*** I think if you put that gal up in front of the Russian army she could scare them back to their own country .

I got to thinking about the situation the other night, and it seems there are three things that, IMHO, Ukraine should have done to help avoid them being in this situation:

1- They should have joined NATO a.s.a.p., particularly after the Russian bear took a big bite out of them several years ago, when Russia/Putin "annexed" the Crimean peninsula. That's what NATO is for - small counties in need of defense from larger "bullying" countries around them. I have no idea why they didn't do that ..

2- In similar vein, seems all the Russian republics should have formed their own treaty organization for their mutual defense from other republics, in this case, Russia, particularly after it became clear that Putin was a despot, intending to usurp other republics.

3- they should have mandated a term of military conscription (i.e. "draft" for all able-bodied persons upon turning 18, and not waited until NOW to do so in the form of prohibiting all males 18-60 from leaving the country, hoping they will have no choice but to take up arms to defend their nation. I believe Israel does something like that (both males and females), and I know Switzerland does (at least with males). Both are very small nations that would need every person they can get to be prepared to defend their country in the event of invasion by a larger force. I am particularly impressed by Switzerland's program: after their term of conscription is over with each soldier is given a uniform, an automatic rifle, and a certain # of rounds of ammo (I think it's in the 100s) that they MUST keep in their home (e.g. in a closet) at all times, in case of invasion. FYI, Switzerland's highway system is also specially designed so that, in an invasion situation, the highway can be readily converted into air strips for planes to take off from and land . They can also be readily converted into tank traps to help slow down/stop oncoming tanks involved in the invasion.

PumpkinMoondust in reply to attydallas3: Did you watch the whole video? I don't even know why I posted it cause I know most people wouldn't watch it cause it's not their kind of music. But she is an amazing vocalist and the band is equally amazing. The lyrics and the visuals, like the unicorns to soldiers thing, are really sad.

Sunny B Blessed in reply to andreabeach90: Right, because they are afraid to say it out loud. So they say nothing, but they are thinking it. They know Trump loves Putin and has expressed great admiration for dictators such as Putin, Hitler, Kim Jong Un, etc. But they know in their hearts that war is horrible and dictators are horrible to their people. So, instead of admitting they support TrumPutin, they are quiet.

ClassicCarTunes
ClassicCarTunes: Meanwhile, Armenia has more of its country taken from it and the world stage ignores that Russia approved of it:

https://www.rferl.org/a/armenia-azerbaijan-putin-troops-border-withdrawal/31254474.html

When the Ukraine raises its civil rights standing I will feel for them. I am not sure how many of you know this but they are right down at the bottom of the list with Russia. They are still allowing women to be shipped like cattle to other nations in the West (like mine) to be used as call girls. Many of them not realizing that their "waitress job" or "domestic staff" is nothing but a cover for being put in "motels" where they live in poverty.

While I am not happy with what Russia is doing why is the Ukraine of more interest than Armenia? There is another former member of the Soviet Union that is under fire by Moscow too. If you have been reading your news you know which one it is. Hint: it borders with Afghanistan.

attydallas3: I admit I only watched the first 1/3 or so of the video, Satansbabe And you're right, I'm not really into that genre of music, so I aborted at that point. After I read your post, I went back and listened to it all the way through. Wow - is that the same gal in the middle of the video, singing sweetly , as the one doing the nasty thing at the beginning??? I admit I'm impressed, but with that ability wonder why she doesn't do more "sweet singing" in her tunes? I would think it would make her more popular ..

PumpkinMoondust: I usually wouldn't say anything regarding this. I think Trump and Biden are equally moronic but name calling someone who voted for the side you didn't makes YOU the idiot. We all do what works for us.

And to these people screaming that Trump supporters are idiots and responsible for all the bad goings on in the world and praising Biden: wasn't Biden also accused of sexual assault? And wasn't he caught on camera using the word nigger? Among many, many other things, I mean...I don't really have the time to type out every single allegation....

Sunny B Blessed in reply to PumpkinMoondust: @ Satans, no, Biden wasn't accused of sexual assault, unless smelling someone's hair is sexual assault (it's not). Trump has been accused of many, many sexual assaults and rapes, however, and even brags about being able to "grab women by the pussy" because he's famous he gets away with it.

And no, Biden was never caught using the N word. He has been caught using the F word though (he said "this is a big F&*(cking deal" when Affordable Health Care passed).
