The islamic perspective of celebrating events is that we celebrate what the prophet has celebrated, and we don't celebrate what he didnt, prophet Muhammed peace be upon him celebrated 2 festivals which are Eid Al Fitr and this comes after Ramadan (The month of fasting), and Eid al Adha and this comes during the Pilgrimage seasons .. other than these 2, we don't celebrate any events, because it would be heresy, and heresies lead to misguidance and thus losing the Hereafter.. it worth mentioning that the prophet didnt celebrate his own birthday,.. you can see christmas now for christians (lets assume Jesus peace be upon him was born during christmas, even tho he wasn't of course) during christmas, christians do drink and have sex, etc .. they probably dont even remember Jesus , heresies are always bad. i think you stepped into the right path when you stopped celebrating these events , you don't wanna make satan happy, as he is our open enemy .. i urge you my friend to look into Islam, you will be amazed of how much sense it would make to you, you will find yourself in it. I started back in my early college days and began m search. I studied different Christian denominations and then different religions. All this research actually helped me grow more. I've gotten to know many Muslims here over the years .
