I come from East and North African descent. I attend school and also work part-time cleaning offices and homes whenever I have free time. As a result, my social life isn't the most active. I also have severe central auditory processing disorder which doesn’t help. It makes it difficult for me to speak and understand speech. My ears are fine--I can hear sounds-- but my brain can't process and produce speech all to well, or at all really sometimes. I’m like in this grey area between deaf and hard of hearing. But I’m not completely incapable of communicating as you can tell. I use visual means of communicating like sign language and text to circumvent the issues of CAPD. But I run across another ASL user hardly ever, so most all of my communication is written English.

So in between school and having to work and being neurodevelopmentally challenged, a chatroom is one of few options I have to actively engage with others socially..

well, that's my theory, at least.

But in practice it’s been… eh.

As a side note, a DNA analysis showed that a portion of my genetic makeup can be traced back to ancient hominids. This leads me to speculate whether this ancestral link might be the true underlying cause of my speech struggles, rather than solely CAPD. It's not my idea but it seems plausible to me.
