Ann Howe: Well, Jeff...A big part of the problem is a result of illegal immigration now being allowed..

CharlotteXainte: It's nothing to do with immigration of any description, Ann Howe, unless you mean a white boy shooting Hispanics in an El Paso Walmart. Also, illegal immigration is not allowed. That's why it's called 'illegal'.

CharlotteXainte: Over 230 this year so far. The powerful NRA lobby insists that more guns = less violence. Which is like saying more drinking leads to less alcoholism. Clearly disingenuous but they give away millions each year in "political donations" and so are allowed to get away with it.

CharlotteXainte in reply to kyliefun4: Except there is no right to own guns. The 2nd Amendment says "A well regulated militia, being essential to the security of the free state, the right of the people to keep and to bear arms shall not be infringed".

To keep and to bear. To own is notable by its absence: Highly notable, given that ownership of property as a qualification to vote is explicitly mentioned in the Constitution many times over.

The right being granted is to militia members, to keep their state issued weapon in their homes, and to bear them upon the order of the state. In modern terms, the National Guard.
