attydallas3: Diabetes Drug Metformin (Glucophage) Under Investigation for Possible Contamination - Oh boy .. first they have recalled my high blood pressure drug (Losartan) not once but twice b/c of "rocket fuel" contamination, now the same thing may happen to my diabetes med. If the diseases don't kill us, the meds will .. :

If you or someone you know is on Met., be sure to keep an eye out for updates on the investigation .. If the F.D.A. does pull it, that will be very interesting ... since the agency admits there is no other drug that works like it ..

missmishaps: My doctor took me off of metformin because some of the side effects. To embarrassing to say what they were. That’s when she put me on insulin. There are far more drugs out there besides metformin. I can’t remember where I saw it posted, but a person took a metformin pill and put it in water and it didn’t dissolve. Now that’s not saying it was always like that. But just think about it. You are taking something is supposed to help keep your sugars low and the pill just sits in your stomach. As much as I hate taking shots, I’d much rather do that than take metformin.

attydallas3 in reply to missmishaps: Well, an important "selling point" for me on it (aside from not having to inject) is that Metformin is supposedly the only diabetes med that does NOT cause weight gain. However, that claim was before some of the new injectables came out, including that one that begins with "Oz" which is injected only weekly. The co. claims that some patients who take it lose weight as a result .. &:-) Paul

EyzzBrown: Yikes... thanks for the heads up, Atty... one of my sisters may be taking that.
They treat symptoms, not the cause, and then people end up worse
