Friends | An industrial designer from New England, now stuck up in the wilds of MN for family. I had moved to Minneapolis from up north, but now I've left the city and am out by the university. Remote work tech is an amazing thing. *Really important* -- If you are trying to friend me, we have to have talked about something in a chat first, and more than just "Hi". I'm happy to friend any nice chatters who I seem to have something in common with. Asking to be my friend *before* we talk about something is a waste of time. And to clarify for those of you who have asked - that picture is dated now. Add some wrinkles and gray to it, as the years have so graciously donated them to me. aoelberg: Happy (early) Thanksgiving to all! 2 years ago • Report • Link 0 (Post deleted by staff 2 years ago) kathyecon: very attractive, thanks for sharing!! 1 year ago • Report 0 aoelberg: With Christmas coming up so quickly, I wanted to make sure I had a chance to wish all of my friends here (whether I've met you or not) the happiest of holidays, whichever of them you celebrate. Blessings to all of you and your families, and here's to a more settled 2022! (clinks glass to anyone else toasting) aoelberg: Oh, and thank you to those are are emailing me. I miss having time to chat with people here so the emails are much appreciated. aoelberg: It's hard to believe that we're almost up to mid-semester at school already. I can't wait for 2021 be gone though... I hope this finds all of my friends safe and doing well. View all 5 posts aoelberg in reply to joe438: Making fun of your sister Joe? Not a good idea... Don't make me come out there. Seriously, thank you for your support and encouragement. I'm really happy about this. aoelberg: Its just a few weeks and then I have to update my status again. I miss hanging around with my friends here. (Sigh) I’m shifting to part time work-at-home, teaching more and of course GETTING MARRIED! I’m so excited! louie3135: It has been a long time.. But one can see why... You have more than a full plate.. Congratulations on your pending nuptials... Im very happy that you are having such a high road of a time right now may it be this way always aoelberg:
Thank you Louie. It really was delightful meeting you and others here. Your well wishes mean a lot to me.
aoelberg: It's hard to believe it's summer. I hope all of my friends are doing well, survived the chaos that was the beginning of the year and are settling back into something resembling normality. I'm out of the city now, my job is becoming full-time remote and things are pretty good out here. I've caught up with a few of you, but I hope that the rest of you are faring well. aoelberg: Merry Christmas to all of my friends here, and keeping my fingers crossed that 2021 turns out to be a better year than this one. Stay safe, hug the people you can and enjoy the holidays. aoelberg: So this came in the mail today even though I don't live in the city proper (forwarded from my apt). I live a good 20-30 minutes from downtown, but still... I've told them at work I don't want to come back and I'm not the first person who has said so. When the police are advising you to not carry items of value and to cooperate with the criminals they've given up. New England is looking better all the time! I'm seeing if the state univ will let me do something fulltime so I can stay out here with my boyfriend. If not, then I found a likely position in MA. Arrgh! The world has gone crazy. View all 4 posts (Post deleted by staff ) joe438: I heard about those letters in the news. It's insane that the city is seriously considering disbanding their law & order. Please do what you have to do to stay safe. aoelberg in reply to louie3135: Thank you guys! It's hopefully not going to stay the "new normal" but for now, it is. I'm praying that sanity returns to the country after the election (however it turns out) but I'm not counting on it. aoelberg: So now Minnesota wants to be declared a disaster area? Can anyone suggest why I shouldn't leave my job and get the hell out of Dodge? (Post deleted by staff ) joe438: You said one of your stepdad's kids have moved closer? Is that with your brother not too far away enough? Of course you need to watch out for your mom, but I hate the idea of your being in harm's way. Your company has offices here in MA. I'd love to see you move back to New England. Anything as long as you're safe. aoelberg: We'll see, Joe. I've applied for a few positions on the internal job board. My sister-in-law got laid off so she's more available to spend more time up here with mom. I think she'll be okay. I appreciate your concern. joe438: Sis, I hope you're staying safe with the rioting. Are you near any of that? Please say you're not... aoelberg: I'm fine Joe, thanks. I work north of the city and the riots are in the south part. I live north of work. We've been asked to stay out of the office and work at home anyway (COVID) but this is yet another reason to just stay up north. Remind me again why I left Boston? I mean, I love being close to my mom and she needed me here but MN is not the idyllic paradise I had hoped. aoelberg to jessicawilson: Happy 2020! I'm sorry we haven't been able to chat, but life gets in the way sometimes. jessicawilson: that's ok things have been kind of crazy for me anyway, maybe see you around sometime this year though aoelberg: I have a work project winding down and perhaps I'll have some more downtime. Going from my own company to being a worker bee was supposed to be easier... aoelberg to joe438: Thank you dear! It's 30 up here at Mom's house now. Imagine that? How's you mom? Did you get to spend time with her yesterday? Mine is doing pretty well, considering. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that you're behaving yourself. Don't make me come out to Boston to deal with you! joe438: *gulp* Yes, sis. Would you actually come out here? [considering his options] It's always good to hear from you and I'm glad things are going well. Let's talk soon. Happy New Year if it's not right away. |
