The dismissal of the Whitlam Labor Government by the Governor General John Kerr (appointed by Whitlam) and the bizarre presence of Norman Gunston (a comic creation of Garry McDonald) on the steps of Parliament house as he attempts to interview treasurer Bill Hayden (Whitlam's successor) and ACTU leader Bob Hawke (Hayden's successor- and future Australian Prime Minister).
