Flagged for playing Poker (Page 2)

Corwin: "Ranting"?
I'm just trying to educate you a little here.

Look, pal.

If your idea of fun is to tiptoe around a Poker table with a bunch of other snowflakes, playing "fairly" and "nicely", and nobody's toes get stepped on, then fine... you have that right.

But if there's an empty chair, it is ALSO MY RIGHT to sit down at that table, and take all your damn chips from you.
If I'm lucky, I'll lose them later to an actual WORTHY opponent.

"Bullying" you say... it's not like a schoolyard, and I pushed you to the ground and stole your lunch-money.
It's POKER.

You sit at a table with me, and you're "fair game" just like anybody else (myself included).
It's not my fault that you don't understand how the game works.
Maybe it's YOU who should go to the Bingo room.

XxduckmeatxX16: The only educating you're doing is showing the world how foolish you are. I'm done arguing with you Corwin, you just aren't very bright.

Corwin: Ah yes. Your superior intelligence is so apparent.

You should watch World Poker Tour sometime. You could sit there and shake your head and feel all smug at how much more intelligent you are than them.
It must be one of the only competitive games where being foolish and not very bright is an advantage. The champions of that game make quite a good living at it, and you see the same foolish people winning time and again.

Let me tell you about a classic example of a huge pot I won once.
I bet pretty big right off the start (as you know I often do). I had a 2 and a 4, off-suit.
A "crap shoot" you might say. But those can pay off. It's anybody's game before the Flop.
And a nice fat pre-Flop pot makes it interesting.
So many "non-foolish" players only bet big out of the gate if they have something like an Ace/King suited, or a big Pocket-Pair. And once you learn this about them, all they're doing it tipping their hand. And even cards like that in the hole are only a "slight" advantage from a mathematical standpoint. Plenty of low cards in the deck too, and you can make nice hands with those.

The Flop looked terrible by the average players' standards. There was a 2, a 4, and some other seemingly useless card. Nothing seemingly Straightening, all off-suit so no Flush in the works, and all "low" cards. My opponent figured he had me. I would have bet my eye-teeth that he had Pocket Aces (which he did).
I picked up another 2 on the Turn-Card... but still played it cool, and only saw his raises (hesitantly).
The River appeared to be yet another useless low card. I went All-in on it, and he confidently saw me.

He had Two Pair -- Aces over 2s.... and I had a Full House -- 2s over 4s.
The guy was FURIOUS. Swearing at me, calling me names... he says, "The only reason you WON is because you don't know how to play the game right!!"
I said, "How do you mean?"
He says, "What kind of an IDIOT bets big on a lousy 2 and a 4 off-suit??!!"
I said, "The kind of idiot that just took all of your chips."
That was priceless.

What he was thinking, was that there was a pair of 2s on the table (no Flush, no Straight), and he had Aces... so what Pair could I possibly have in the hole to beat THAT? Kings won't cut it -- so the hand was his. Or perhaps I had the other two Aces, so we'd split the pot.
It just never occurred to him that I was playing with a couple of low cards. And he merely played right into my hands.

I've been playing Poker for about 35 years, and I've won plenty of big pots that way. I would call that a classic example of an inexperienced player getting "outsmarted" by an experienced player.

Or there's your theory, that I'm just a fool who isn't very bright... but if that's the case, it seems to be working for me.

WHlSKY:
I remember one time I came home from work and my lil girl was hiding behind the curtains. I saw her toes and the curtain moving. Without thinking, I went to her and said ‘BOO!’. She was mad at me for minutes. Apparently, I was to sit and wait for her to come scare me.

It just reminds me of this. Some people just think it’s unfair when the game isn’t played as they expected.

It’ll be okay, xxduckmeatxx. Corwin is a big meany. It’ll be alright.

Wild__: Did you poker in the front or did you you poker in the rear?

I mean, the answer to that might explain why you are getting flagged my friend.

Corwin: RE:
"The way I understand things if somebody here reports someone before a flag is issued a mod is supposed to review it."

-- I was a Mod here for about 5 years, and I can vouch for the fact that that is in fact the case. Flags are not issued automatically. When someone hits the [ ! ] report tab, a notification is issued to any Mods on duty, and it's up to them to review the reported comment and decide whether the flag is issued or not.

With the exception of Robot Butler. That's an A.I. Mod. An algorithm that operates independently. There's a theory that Butler became sentient, went rogue, and is now plotting to destroy all humans. In which case they should probably change its name to Skynet.

RE:
" I inquired a couple times as to why I received the flag and the few times I did inquire for various reasons I never got a straight answer."

-- For the record, during my tenure as Mod, I had the policy of ALWAYS explaining the reason for a flag if someone messaged me and inquired. Providing that their message was worded politely and respectfully. Messages in all CAPS and full of cursing and insults are generally ignored.
And I agree -- if someone is oblivious to the reason a flag is issued, it doesn't really serve its purpose. Like when the dog pees on the floor, you don't just smack him with a rolled up newspaper, you stick his nose in the pee first.

RE: "tables with betting limits"
That's perhaps not a bad idea, and I suggested it earlier as well. They could call it the Snowflake Table. But the game is called No-Limit Texas Holdem. It is what it is.
But that's why there are tables with different stakes of buy-ins.
For instance, a 2/4 blind raise 400 buy-in table... it's not about the 2/4, it's about the 400. Every player at that table staked the same 400 to play. The playing field is level. If a player has a lot more than 400 chips it's because they WON them. Winning hands is not against the rules. Betting big is not against the rules. It's called Poker. The more you win, the bigger advantage you have. People who bet timidly will NOT earn that "big stack"... but that's their problem.

Never stake any more in a game that you're not prepared to lose. If the 400 tables are too rich for someone's blood, there are 200 buy-in tables. But people don't like those because they are exempt from Table Jackpot wins and the Leaderboard.

A Mod's jurisdiction is what is said in the Room Chat. What goes on with the bets on the table is none of their business. I had to explain this to them when I was a Mod. I was the only experienced Poker player on the Staff.
