Google Chrome

davidk14: Recently, when I opened up my browser, this message popped up...

This computer will soon stop receiving Google Chrome Updates because Windows XP and Vista will no longer be supported.

My computer operating system is Vista. Do I need to do address anything and if so...what?

DarwinsMoth: Chrome browsers on those operating systems will continue to work, but they will stop getting updates from Google. Without updates such older platforms are missing critical security updates and have a greater potential to be infected by viruses and malware. It may be a good time to upgrade to a newer operating system.

Geoff: It's because Microsoft are abandoning Vista (and have already done so with XP).

Continuing to run one of these operating systems is itself somewhat risky from a security standpoint, but it's not the end of the world - a decent anti-virus will protect you from most of what's out there and providing you don't do anything especially risky, you'll be fine.

Firefox and Opera for these older versions of Windows are still being kept up to date.

It looks like Chrome will be supported until April.

BrandyRose: Yepp...I use Chrome and Vista as well, and I've seen the same warning.

If anything, I have Opera installed as well.

Geoff: I have to say, that when it comes to touch capable browsers, Opera on my phone beats Chrome.

Geoff: And Pro-tip: disable Flash player in Chome - it'll not crash so often and work faster. You just won't get videos on websites that don't keep up with the HTML5 times.

BrandyRose: Geoff: I Opera is good, but Chrome (for the PC at least) is faster. Opera has been lagging lately...very slow start up times.
