Geoff: How about... a lookup using the same function as that which governs emotes that looks for any string encapsulated with colons (or a string beginning with a colon and ending with a semi colon) and then after the post we're asked, "Did you actually mean..." and then the typical typos of the emote we failed to post - and the edit is handled as a post-facto spell check; rather than free reign to edit an existing post?

Possibly extend it to a dictionary look up - overlay any word not in a dictionary and offer a correction as a pop-up drop-down list?
