- For Users That Have Been Flagged / Suspended - (Page 4)

stonedjuxtapose
stonedjuxtapose: Sounds like a fair system... the only issue I have... is... it never seems to work both ways. If both sides of the altercation are reviewed, I find it much more curious that death wishes and excessively vulgar language is ignored while rather lame and immature name calling is punished.. Yet (and I know this because I "experimented"... if I am the one making death wishes and excessive vulgarities... I am punished while the other continues chatting..

All in all, it sounds fair.. but.. like I said.. most mods are bias towards particular chatters.
The rules don't seem to apply to everyone Just an observation.

Owen: On a report, we see limited information and more often than not (if there is more to a report) we are too busy or otherwise distracted to read the entire history of the event unless it's otherwise brought to our attention - normally by the user who got muted/flagged/suspended to ask we look into it a bit more thoroughly and we do when they PM us.

The way a report works is, say you report a line of my text - it gets review by a moderator. Only that line in the report is flaggable, we cant say tick a few boxes on usernames and send them the same flag or consequence.

This is why we encourage reporting, in my example, not just you for reporting me but me also reporting you (should you have done something wrong) That way we can tell far easier it's a two-way scenario where both (or more) users need attending to. And we'll either review the log or join the room and try cool it down in that way.

But we wont ever give someone a flag if they don't deserve it - unless we made a mistake. Which has happened by us all at least once

stonedjuxtapose: Typically, when I pm a mod... I get "I wasn't me" (even if they are the only mod online and just so happened to be in the room at the time) OR "I can't do anything about it" OR... and you know this one "Don't argue with my decision"... OR.. they block me o.O
Every time....

"I hope you fucking die".... mods don't see that as an issue to say to ME... but if I say "Hey, you look like a tool" BAM.. flag.. possible suspension... then I'll ask a mod "Yo... what the hell? I really hope the other person (whom I also reported ) gets the same.... I'll get in return "hey, we can't be everywhere, don't like it, block them, it was my decision blah blah blah"....

I give up on asking you mods for any help unless it's an emoticon I don't know...

Happens often enough that it's no coincidence

those that we usually do what you said are those that know they did wrong but want to discuss it for us to unmute or what ever
I always give the reason in why they were muted or suspended

stonedjuxtapose: Actually Ruby... You're the only mod who does that for me.. Occasionally, the others will help (as long as I'm not questioning their decision.. LOL.. they don't like their "authority" to be questioned )

I'm quick to admit when I do wrong, but my point is... why is the other person allowed to do wrong? Rules are rules... I say something wrong... lay out the "punishment" but if they say something wrong, I expect them to be subject to the same rules.. that's all...

If I start something, and they respond... I get muted or whatever... vice versa? I get muted or whatever... I just want consistency with how the rules are handled.

But you, if I'm really in the mood for answers, I'm well aware you're the only one worth approaching

Owen: It depends on the situation, personally if I make the call to flag or mute someone (or worse) and they want to know why and PM me - I tell them why. And then ask they check out the rules/tos/start to block people - it's the general protocol.

But, we can also completely ignore it because Admin believes something along the lines of "If someone is to be flagged, muted or suspended then they should know why because they've ticked the box when they signed up stating they've read the rules/tos."

We do have a big level of discretion on that side, we can choose whether to assist someone who has had consequences to their account or not. Often if we do decide to give them the reason, they only blow up at us anyways

It's true that we cant be everywhere, it's hard to monitor just one room sometimes when 10 lines of text come up in a few seconds. Mods appear offline all the time, I am right now. Very often there are more mods online than what there appears to be. But in saying that, there are times when there may only be 0-2 of us online.

The rules are handled differently depending on a chatrooms "dynamics" and the room rating.

The users who constantly cause problems eventually get beyond warnings/flags and get a quicker punishment when they act up. We shouldn't need to warn somebody every time they do something wrong.

However, in the long run, the warning is already displayed to you when you join the room anyways.

stonedjuxtapose: All I expect... is if someone reports me for calling them "dumb"... and I report them for saying "go die you miserable fuck"... we should both be flagged or muted... not just me...
Does that sound fair?

Owen: Of course, if you get into that situation just PM the mod and explain that it worked both ways. Chances are just you got reported and that one reported line is the only one we can flag.

It only becomes obvious it's 2-way (or more) if reports come from both users

stonedjuxtapose: well that's my whole point here... I do that... last time it happened Mandalorion or whatever his name is blocked me... o.O
It's why I have an issue with mods. He's not the only one I've come to about similar situations..
I just want to bring this to peoples attention. I rarely report... usually it's foreign languages or spamming that I report.. I'm a big boy, my feelings don't get hurt here.. I just like to know that everybody is subject to the same rules.

Thanks for all of your responses guys.
Owen, Ruby..

Boba Fett: When there is a flag I will respond to the flag. Abuse is abuse and the whole, "but he/she started it.." doesn't hold water as an excuse to break chat rules oneself. If there are excessive comments made by other users: flag them...then I can see clearly as its harder to go back through lines of text looking for every nasty comment made. I don't spend my time here ghosting rooms and hovering over comments searching for trouble.

The other part of why punishment may not be seen as meted out fairly or special rules apply etc...is that actions made by mods aren't seen and can be subtle or delayed for some reason. Sometimes phones ring, the pizza arrives, I have 3 pms going...which means the other user involved who should be muted/suspended chats for 15 minutes longer until I am able to get back to it. In this event the one that was suspended is not seeing 'justice" meted out in accordance to the level of frustration they have.
