JeanYves72: Most cases it takes about 4 to 5 years to reach black belt (shodan) with a couple of classes a week. The ranking system must have been a very elongated Ms Blood.

spiritualmaster: I started in Karate and got my first degree-black belt back in the late 70s.I fell into Aikido by accident helping some aikido pupils practice and because of my Karate they asked me to help them as they needed a attacker .Aikido is very hard to practice unless you have a attacker ,I thought it was a bit of fun and converted to Aikido ,Where eventually gaining my third-degree black belt in Aikido .Now Iam a Sensei and teach Swordsmanship @ .Aikido in a select school that is only by invitation
