JeanYves72: Study the Bujinkan. The Soke is head of 9 ryu with an unbroken liniage. 3 ninjutsu and 6 samurai. Also like the philosophy of Aikido. Especially the styles that focus on Aiki more.
JeanYves72: Most cases it takes about 4 to 5 years to reach black belt (shodan) with a couple of classes a week. The ranking system must have been a very elongated Ms Blood.
spiritualmaster: I started in Karate and got my first degree-black belt back in the late 70s.I fell into Aikido by accident helping some aikido pupils practice and because of my Karate they asked me to help them as they needed a attacker .Aikido is very hard to practice unless you have a attacker ,I thought it was a bit of fun and converted to Aikido ,Where eventually gaining my third-degree black belt in Aikido .Now Iam a Sensei and teach Swordsmanship @ .Aikido in a select school that is only by invitation
JeanYves72: I have heard of the Hokushin Ryu. A very old and respected ryu. Explains why you have delved into the essence of the arts. It is a pleasure and an honour to have the chance to talk to and learn in some ways from a person with such a background.

JeanYves72: Isshin and Shorin Ryu are both respected styles of karate. Not my thing but still beautiful to watch when done by masters and effective.
