Have you ever saved a life...

nuckachucks
nuckachucks: It could be perceived that I'm referring to the actual physical act of intervening in an emergency and saving someone's life, but saving a life doesn't mean it always has to be done in an emergency situation. Someone's life can be saved simply by guiding them in the right direction in order to stop their journey on a path of destruction. If anyone out there has a story of a time when they saved a life, please share it on here because I would love to read it. Your story can be anything from doing cpr on someone down to just influencing somebody's actions to steer them in the right direction. As a firefighter, and an emergency medical technician, I have plenty of stories of times when I've saved lives. There are many times when my actions have steered people in the right direction as well. I often wonder if members of the public have done some of the things I've done, or experienced some of the same things I've been through so far in my career.

traumarn61: I do not work in the field. I work in a trauma burn ICU. This has been a very tough month... It is hard when I have worked soooo hard on somebody day in and day out... And then they do not make it in the end. It is so easy to focus on the failures.... At least it is for me. We have lost many people recently....but through all the sadness there is the light. There is a burn patient I have had the privilege of caring for and getting close to. It is when decannulation happens and you have that first true conversation that I remember why I do what I do....every day. I get to see this person succeed and leave....when at one point we didn't see a good ending in sight. Thank you for doing what you. I need to focus on the good endings because I remember more of the bad.

nuckachucks: For every five people we don't save in our careers there are at least 5 that we did save and they remain with us forever through some sort of a connection. Thank you for what you do. Keep up the hard work and don't let the brightness be overshadowed by the darkness.

Brandijoi12: When I was in nurse, I worked in a nursing facility and became very familiar with the patients that I attended. One day I came into work and one of my most feisty was sitting in her wheelchair slumped over my shift was 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Her name was Barbara, when I approached her and tried to get her attention, I got no response. I noticed she was very cold. I took her to her room and put her in her bed and took her vital signs. Her temperature was around 92 degrees. I immediately went to the director of nursing and told them that she was dying, and she had been sitting there from 7 a.m. when she was taking out of bed until 3 p.m. when I arrived and apparently no one noticed or cared. Needless to say, she was hospitalized, and I was overjoyed when she returned and was back to her feisty, mouthy, lovely little self. When you are entrusted with a job such as that, it is your duty to keep your eyes and ears open at all times to notice any and all changes in the people that you are taking care of. That was the one time that I saved a life.

Sage of Bryan
Sage of Bryan: When I was about twelve years of age, my nephew and I were fishing. He fell into the river. He couldn't swim. I jumped and pulled him to shore. Never received any medal or citation for it even though I was in the Boy Scouts.

I never looked for or wanted any recognition, I was glad to still having my nephew. My parents reported the incident to my Scout Master, but nothing ever came of it.

Today, my nephew is about seventy-three years old. He lives in Arizona where he and I were both born. I live in Texas.

SouthernBellPDX: When i was about 12 years old my family and i went camping . A friend of my mothers, single mom joined us with her 2 daughters. One my age, and one about 5 y/o.. Went swimming, and a under current drags the younger girl under . i moved as fast as I could running in water, and got to her in time. I'm sure someone else would have gotten her had i not. But; it was me .One person acknowledged what i had done. and that was okay.
