Was life introduced to Earth ? GeraldtheGnome: Creation theories about even one god or goddess had created life from nothing and/or from spontaneous generation is false. No one also will ever be able to prove or disprove that abiogenesis has ever occurred. Has anyone thought of any other alternative such as was life introduced to Earth ? kittybobo34: That is called Panspermia, and it is just as likely. Recently they have found organic chemicals in meteors, as well as a micro fossil in a Mars rock although there is debate as to whether the fossil is real or or a natural fissure. kittybobo34: Supplement to the above statement: They recently found all 4 amino acids that account for genes in a meteor. ParallaxMan: kitty, fred hoyle and chandra wickramasinghe wrote papers supporting the theory of panspermia, if I recall they were, "Evolution from space" and "The amazing redness of the kuiper objects". You point out that amino acids and etc were found on meteors, that ties with panspermia during the late heavy bombardment theory and, subsequently, life is not indigenous to Earth (except perhaps the Octopus). kittybobo34: We know that bacteria , viruses, even small animals like the tardigrade can survive in space.. Should we find life elsewhere, one look at the DNA will tell the story. ParallaxMan: Life is everywhere, I believe, floating about in space, deep beneath the icy crusts of Europa and Enceladus, swathed upon the surface of the kuiper objects and etc. it all depends on one’s definition of life, from bacteria to microbes and, perhaps, intelligent, technological civilisations (despite the current lack of evidence). The Drake equation predicts the possibility of extra-terrestrial life and presently confirms that, apart from us, the cosmos is barren. Just one signal or one discovery of life elsewhere and the cosmos will suddenly blossom. IMO
kittybobo34: I think it likely that life exists where ever the conditions are right,, but intelligent life is a super rarity. It took the Earth 4.5 billion years to evolve intelligence. It takes a very stable environment to evolve complex life, and even then the chances of intelligence are rare. GeraldtheGnome: Spontaneous evolution, which is in at least mentioned in two religious books if not in more than that, never happened and is not happening right now, it will most likely never happen. Anyway it’s also what is featured in various forms of science fiction. There are some alternatives that no one here has thought about, a clue to what I mean can be found in the title of this forum. kittybobo34: How would you know if evolution is not happening now. There are many species that are dividing into other species. You can find them if you bother to look. GeraldtheGnome: I never mentioned that, read properly what I put rather than get cranky about something that I never told you. Spontaneous evolution is only in religious books, most people have not noticed that. It’s not really about if life was or was not introduced to Earth though. You asked a question without a question mark. (Edited by GeraldtheGnome) kittybobo34: And, they have found bacteria miles down in the bore holes of the earth, so if any planet had life and blew up , the seeds are there GeraldtheGnome: There is more than just that to consider. No one knows if the idea of abiogenesis is nothing more than just something that has been guessed about. It most likely didn’t happen at least on Earth. No one knows what occurred in the past that meant that Earth suddenly has life. It’s a minority of people that do it, the word and is not needed and the word and is better without a comma after it. Apart from that it is fine. They didn't clean up very well. All life evolved from a moldy alien tuna fish sandwich. GeraldtheGnome: In regards to Kitty’s last question as to why I deleted her replies I find it odd that she asked considering that I told her something along the lines in a private message before she asked that question ‘Sorry but I deleted your replies because they had nothing to do with the subject’. She obviously doesn’t always read each email or she forgot about what she read. That is what her last message was about and I tell you this now because I am going to delete a question that she should not have asked. As for the mouldy Tuna sandwich theory left from Alien tourists that had a picnic goes well the problem is that there must be evidence that at least does suggest that Alien tourists might have been on Earth back then. Well there might have been Alien tourists, I don’t know any evidence of it and there most likely will never be, I can not rule any of that out though. There at least so far is no evidence of anything you told me being certainly right or possibly right. All life on Earth cannot have evolved from a mouldy Tuna sandwich from space because for all life to have evolved on Earth would include the mould as well and besides I have not seen any reason to believe that mould and Tuna came from somewhere beyond Earth. There are many of reasons why I disregard the theory that you only put on here as a joke.
