IamJooe: First brainstorming project -
Hello everyone, Thank you all for all your attention and imput today you have been great, all the smartest greatest minds and awesome people we wanted to be a part of this ambitious project are here and it feels great, myself saturn and upaya have been passing ideas back and forth and have decided that a good first project for us all in this group would be based around the area of recycling. so we are hoping each of us can do some research, gather some data good facts and info and we will all share what we have tommorow around this time in our chat group and see if we can put anything together towards the area of recyling!
ZykraCosmos: Looks like recycling is a popular theme at this point. I would suggest focusing on a specific area, such as plastics, including pushing a movement to manufacture only recyclable plastics, elimination of single-use plastics, and innovation in the manufacture of products made from recyclable plastics. This feeds into Zhang's suggestion of the 3 R's of sustainability. How to set up a strategy that links these focal points?
IamJooe: Zykra a great idea, i totally agree recycling as a good area to work on, also the thing about specific areas, i will discuss with you and the guys later but i have been thinking about chopping up different segments within climate change and tackling smaller chunks rather than u always trying to solve climate change as a whole, also with certain people heading different projects like recycling, forestation, energy. but it needs a bit of organising, i will also try to reply to zhang and hopefully we can all have a discussion about plastics over the next few days.
IamJooe: @Zhang - sorry for the slow reply to your post, I agree we should focus on the 3 Rs, we can talk about putting a group together to work on this or can all discuss in group but i think there is some great ideas here to work on with the 3 rs. Also i will post times in future when announcing a group session.
IamJooe: THESIS 24-01-20 - Hello everyone! we had our first day yesterday in the newly formed Earthshot Project group! thank you all for being great and reading the group intro, showing you interest in global warming and earthshot and joining the group! and for all the brilliant work, brainstorming and ideas we had yesterday!
Moving forward, we will be having some great discussions about the future of the project, ideas and solutions to specific and wider areas of global warming, infomation about projects and events with Earthshot foundation.
I am hoping to also think about certain people taking head roles in specific areas within the group,we did the skills and hobbies session yesterday headed by upaya, and we now have a great understanding of who has what skills and interests, and so this will help us move forward.
I will update this forum and check it for posts and reply to posts and questions daily
if anyone has any ideas, questions, problems or would like to apply to be head of a certain area within the group or would like to start a sub project within the group please let me know on here
SaturnBat: This is a idea for the EarthShot Project from ZykraCosomos that he was talking about earlier.
It's' a project that is focused and doable, but it would take a financial partner. It involves building a off-grid neighborhood. It would be completed with solar panels, on all of the roofs of the homes, a few wind turbines to generate more power needed. They would be able to have a electrical car, electric appliances and never pay utilities. It could be possibly duplicated all over the world. The homes would be affordable to all, they would pay a monthly homeowners association fee, which would cover the cost of maintenance and service on any solar panels on any home. Possible some of the neighborhood energy could be used to have an onsite waste treatment facility, also the facility could circulate water all around the neighborhood for lawns. For quick convenience you could have a little store for basic needs like milk, eggs and bread. They could also have the use of a golf cart to charge up to get to the little store if needed. Its cost would be much less then a conventional neighborhood. On the plus side the power would never go out.
SaturnBat: More, a electric school bus can pick up children for the nearby school, there are altered versions for different types of areas due to its location.
IamJooe: i absolutely love this - great idea!! would you and zykra like to put this into word document or organise it into a more detailed plan? possibly with ideas of costs of builds, maybe a neighborhood design ( home can help with computer designing software) put together all ideas and estimates, and maybe ideas for finnancial partners? also may be worth thinking about the first neighbourhood being aimed at people with a bit more money? what do you think? i dont mean the rich but im just thinking if people see wealthyer people wanting to be in this neighborhood and live there it make make more desirable to some other people? i dunno just a thought, awesome idea guys thank you and keep up the good work! (let me know if you need any help with putting the idea together as plan)
IamJooe: HELLO EVERYONE - FREE ENVIRO STUDY COURSES!!!!!!
I have here a source which is the British open university online, its British but available to anyone to register and use internationally. You just register an account, click on the 'free courses' tab and scroll down to the 'environmental and nature' tab. Here it has a list of some awesome short free courses in our area..environmental science, renewable energy, changing cities..some great stuff here, if you are interested in increasing your knowledge in environmental issues this is for you, and you can help the less knowledgeable new members of the group get upto speed with your skills. Enjoy!
1)Less CO2, let's don't burn trees and fossils, let's plant many trees (mygreen).
2)How to use garbage as a currency (or turn it into a currency) ? Design a new car from two old cars. (cuddlyable).
3)Today's global warming is caused by past events. We pay for old infrastructure of our granparents today (home15).
4)Big corporations (like Apple, Intel...) cannot stop or modernize their manufacture now (Camden, smilingkiss).
5)We need graphs of year's CO2 and global temperature (Camden).
6)Two games Green World. A)The reality game (analog Pokémon go) where gamers do tasks in real life. B)The computer game where gamers build own Green World or do some tasks. (home15)
7)How to spread ideas of Green World among people and make it popular? (Camden, smilingkiss).

IamJooe: Class on Air Quality Today in the Earthshot project chat room - taken by Jooe with help from home -
We will start once we have enough people on line and at a time best for everyone
Hope to see you there!
Judi_: Are we still brainstorming what to focus on?
If we all agree to focus on recycling plastic, we can start now.
Only 9 percent of discarded plastic was being recycled, while 12 percent was burned. The rest was buried in landfills or simply dumped and left to wash into rivers and oceans.
Why I decided on the plastics problem. Plastic is the biggest or one of the main problem, it is difficult to recycle plastic (and some plastic cannot be recycling such as melamine) hence plastic polluting our lands and oceans killing some wildlife.
In the past plastic waste was sent to China to be recycle. China has now stop this.
Current solution already in process:-
1)Recycle plastics (not all plastic can be recycle)
2)Biodegradable plastic (we don't know the long term effects yet)
3)Reduced single use plastic (it seems completely stop single use plastic it not yet possible, we should look into why it has not been stop yet?)
4)Returning plastic packaging back to the companies that used them and they in turn to their suppliers/producers of the plastic packaging/
products (very few companies doing this, why is that? Is it not cost effective?)
This is not current solution yet as it is not up and running but a new technology/chemical turning plastic to oil.
One solution, the one that everyone can do is to totally stop the use of single use plastic bag (SUPB) in any form (and all other single use plastic products just not bag).
Many major supermarkets and stores had stopped using SUPB, but supermarkets still use SUPB for fruits and vegetables (not the carry bags). Currently on the market there are already reusable bags for these purpose.
The next step is to stop SUPB for fruits and vegetables completely as well.
The town councils and the supermarket could do this similar with how they deal with the SUPB carriers. That is by providing free reusable bags for a limited time before total bans on any form of plastic bags
