How does climate change cause extreme weather?

Kekraptico: In the days after wildfires, tornadoes, floods, heat waves, hurricanes, and other severe events, climate scientist Stephanie Herring fields the same question from journalists, researchers, and victims: Was this disaster caused by climate change? Until a few years ago, she says she lacked an appealing response. “We could tell you what we know about trends,” says Herring, who’s at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Centers for Environmental Information in Boulder, CO. “But we were giving very generic answers.”
