Though money can be made on nonsense it is not as useful and some times harmful. Using what results of it but hating it like a hypocrite is also in new agey cults created by people.

rmclark: I don't know what to believe any more. This has been a political hot potato for years. I believe that the earth is warming. I just have a few problems with a few little things put out there.
I'm not totally convinced that we can stop warming and that most of it is nature caused and not man made ( Can I say that today). I see models out there saying that the ocean will rise 10 feet by such a date. Folks, do you know that there are ancient city's under water and they have been there a long time. Long before there was any mention of a carbon foot print. That's a fact and not some theory made by some scientists.
Some folks have been calling for the end of the world for years. Well I suspect that some day their Great great great grand kid might be right, but I don't know that. I believe we should do what we can do and be good stewards of our earth. But I don't like our leaders saying we are all going to be dead in 12 years ( well that was almost 2 years ago) and diving into the green new deal just yet, while those that are saying that fly around in their private jets.
The carbon Credit deal is a total hoax. People getting rich and planting a few trees. Sounds good, but I wonder how many of those planted trees are going up in smoke as I type, in California ? Go ahead and buy your carbon credits folks. I could actually set up my business to sell my credits and make a little money, but I won't be part of the hoax.

First off I notice you later on mention a Hoax. Why do you think Science is perpetrating a Hoax? What exactly is their motive?

Science can give us probabilities not exact timelines. I have been having similar chats with why people have so different Political beliefs when all the information and Facts are readily available.

Usually and as you have just done there will be a statement of misinformation or maybe just an exaggeration like your comment "our leaders saying we will all be dead in 12 years. back in 2018.

Well that is not what was said. They said 2 years ago if we do nothing we will be in a situation we can not reverse or the point of no return.

My position is if they errored in their calculations why not error on the side of prevention instead of disaster?

Why would you call an attempt to mitigate the emissions of Carbon Dioxide a Hoax?
It can work if not abused like everything in life.

Those that are manufacturing a product that does not emit CO2 can and do sell their credits for lots of money but that isn't a bad thing it is an incentive to build more of those products as Tesla does.

The bad is it allows those who abuse the CO2 emissions to buy credits and continue to emit. But they have bought credits from those who have complied or don't emit.

The best was is voluntary or mandatory but the credits are an attempt.

I say follow the Science not our "leaders"

zeffur: I say stop trying to enslave people with your unproven 'science'.
No new carbon is introduced into earth's system--we just transform some of it from fossil fuels into other forms. It can be transformed back into plants via natural growth over time. Shove your unnecessary & stupid new green deal up your political a$$--we don't need or want your marxist control mechanisms...

kittybobo34: Zeff,,, New carbon is constantly being added. It's being pumped out of the ground where it was sequestered for millions of years. Murrayduan said the predictions were wrong, and he was correct, its going faster than predicted. As the planet warms its releasing Methane in huge quantities, and methane is a 100x more of a greenhouse gas.

All we can do is look to the past, and Global greenhouse runaway has happened twice in the planets past, both times, more than 95% of the advanced life on the planet perished. On the lucky side we were due to fall back into an ice age, and were headed that way up till about a hundred years ago.... Hopefully the two will cancel each other.

zeffur: Plants need CO2--they'd die without it. We just need to sequester a bit more than we produce until the levels are optimal--then strive for maintaining at that level.

rmclark: Murray Glad to have the conversation. Al Gore said we would be gone a long time ago AOC said we would be dead (in 10 more years from now) Many more from all over. I believe that most if not all of the hysteria is based on models. Models made up by scientist that have a vested interest in this called "a job". Their job will dry up if they can't keep this thing going. Don't get me wrong. I'm 62 years old. I can remember as a kid going to Denver, Kansas City, and St Louis and seeing all the smog in the mid to late 60's and the Iron Eyes Cody commercials. Its good to improve and take care of our earth, but the "New Green Deal" is off the charts.
I'm ok with the government giving tax credits to those that do "green things" as long s there is an end ( say 7-10 years) sunset in the subsidy. In other words, it should stand on its own in the free market system. But that's as far as I would go for "attempting mitigation" of carbon. Fair enough?
Ethanol hasn't turned out to be what it was touted by our green scientist. 10-15 years ago it seemed to be the magic bullet. It might be a little bit better than neutral, but it uses a lot of water and resources to grow the crop and producing the product. It is however positive in that I don't think the government is subsidizing the product at all anymore.
I'll agree that the carbon credit is sold to the public as you said. But its been reported that Al Gore made over $200 Million on this thing ( I don't know if the numbers are true) while he jets around on his Gulf Stream. At least he used to. If Al was serious about it, don't you think some of that profit could be used in actual green projects? Looks and smells bad to me.
In conclusion, I'm for doing what we can, that is economically feasible. But my timeline for moving green is longer than some.
Has anyone seen Obama sporting around in a Volt lately?
Everyone have a great day.
