Why is the climate changing. (Page 72) kittybobo34: wondering too, if the planet gets hot, forest fires will be the norm everywhere, is there enough oxygen to allow us to survive, especially if the plankton starts dieing Sir Loin: That won't necessarily happen. Ocean currents will and are changing which will affect climates on land, some places will become deserts like is happening now to West coast USA and Eastern Aussie as cold currents replace warm but in other places warm currents will create rainforest in coastal areas. Sir Loin: We might see the Namib Desert become tropical forest providing a new habitat for gorillas. kittybobo34: I just think all this will happen to fast for most animal and plant life to make the switch kittybobo34: I am sure there will be organizations trying to help, they will have to compete with humans trying to survive too Sir Loin: Oh bugger it! This world is fucked. I'm gonna move back into the mountains and be a hermit again Sir Loin: yes, I heard Koko had died. I was upset because my ex gf was called Koko and I thought it was her Sir Loin: She might be my ex but we're still friends and she played music at mine and Asiababes wedding zeffur: 30 years of global warming predictions show just how bad scientists are at predicting global temps & that they should based their models on REAL temp changes not their fantasy models to scare people, when it isn't necessary. src: https://www.wsj.com/articles/thirty-years-on-how-well-do-global-warming-predictions-stand-up-1529623442 https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-how-well-have-climate-models-projected-global-warming How hot was it in the past & life still existed? "Scientists have reconstructed the climatic development of the Arctic Ocean during the Cretaceous period, 145 to 66 million years ago. At that time the poles were devoid of ice and average temperatures of up to 35 degrees Celsius prevailed in the oceans." src: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/05/150528083818.htm What are the current average arctic ocean temps? Yes, that's right--almost 37 °C colder today than in the past! "Average temperatures of the Arctic Surface Water range from -1.88 °C (28.6 °F) to -1 °C (30.2 °F). src: https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/how-cold-is-the-arctic-ocean.html Kittybobo types of 130 °F temp--which are very uncommon & which we have no idea when that would occur (if ever)--so, I think our 'climate' scientists should focus on reality rather than trying to create panic that isn't warranted. (Edited by zeffur) ghostgeek: What really gets my goat is you wait all year for a really warm winter, courtesy of global warming, and then you read the weather forecast: There's not long to go until winter and experts warn it could be a pretty cold one for some parts of the UK. Researchers from a university in London say it could be one of the coldest winters in 30 years. They've forecast an average temperature of just 3.9C for January to February - that's pretty chilly. The climate experts have been studying current sea temperatures and a weather system over the north Atlantic. They found that a freezing vortex of Arctic air could hit the country in the next few months. Some people have said it will be another 'Beast from the East'. Ms Lucas said she “occasionally” flies across the pond to visit her son – but argued the focus should be on “changing” the system and imposing tax on aviation fuel. It reminds me of Hitler sitting in his bunker in Berlin eating cake while everyone outside was enjoying an extra round of Russian shells. | Science Chat Room 1 Person Chatting Similar Conversations |
