Why is the climate changing. (Page 316) ZykraCosmos: WRONG! Solar radiation is a long-term forcing for Earth's climate. Carbon dioxide is the DOMINATE (yes, dominate) forcing of all Earth's historical climate shifts, reacting to millions of years of cosmic and geologic processes. CO2 is Earth's thermostat! Sir Loin: You might like to note that the Permean, Triassic and carboniferous periods did experience warm climates - average 27C but, a big but, the CO2 levels were low and O2 very high, often up to 40% which was needed to support the megafauna. The warmth triggered release of CO2 until it reached something approaching today's level so we have no more dinosaurs. Climate was controlled by shifting ocean currents as the smaller continents moved and coalesced into the Pangaea supercontinent. All factors contributing to the mass extinction bonzono: "Of course solar radiation is the dominant control of climate" no one said it wasn't moron. you clearly have no idea what is meant by 'climate change'. loin, best you find out what it is you're raging against, BEFORE you rage against it. the line "I have no idea what climate change is, but whatever it is, it's wrong" really doesn't make any sense. inform yourself first, then complain. claming that anyone said the sun is not the actual means of energy input to the planet shows you clearly have no idea what the topic is about. either that, or you're simply pretending to be an idiot... successfully, but why you'd pretend to be more stupid than you actually are, is beyond me. Likely you ARE exactly as stupid as you appear. GailNoLastName: Difficult to compare todays world with the past because of continental drift and ocean current changes. As things are now, we have a pretty consistent cycle of ice ages and short warm periods. and that is governed by the Milankovitch theory that predicts the cycle pretty well. Although recent changes in the co2 levels have changed the pattern. Ashleysing: According to scientist the earth had a molten surface in its early stages. Yet the planet survived And here we are, with a handful of idiots claiming we are destroying it. One volcano releases more co2 in 10 minutes than every car on earth in 10 years. One volcaxo releases more heat in 30 seconds than all the cars on earth in 30 years. Want to stop global warming? Extinguish the volcanos then bitch about humans bonzono: ashely, you're more than stupid if you think people are claiming humans are 'destroying' a 6e+24 kg rock with climate change whatever you think climate change is, little twit, it aint climate change. you have no idea what it is you're stupidly raging against. Ashleysing: Cow farts release methane —- funny fact from SCIENCE - cows don’t fart. Their digestive system doesn’t allow for trapped gasses the way a human does. Cows burp excessively (but that is undigested food so it is co2 not methane. Science discredits political science once again. bonzono: fun fact, CO2 released by cars is less than a half of all TRANSPORT CO2 released by humans transport CO2 is around 1/4 of all CO2 released by humans. ergo, CO2 released by cars is around 1/8 the total amount released by humans. CO2 is not the only GHG released by cars. volcanos are a natural process that the planet has been dealing with for billions of years. the biomass budget has long existed to process it. humans turned up, started puking vast amounts of GHG into the air AND destroying the natural systems already in place to deal with the natural CO2 levels. now they're out of balance, and it's a negative runaway cycle. volcanos are not anthrpogenic. sorry ashely. if you want to talk science, then learn the science first. Sir Loin: Can anyone tell me in past climate shifts when a warming period began after CO2 increased? Or when it was an extra warm period with high CO2? How about a glacial period with low CO2? I'll wait. / Matt_ Johnston: https://keihatsu.substack.com/p/the-truth-about-climate-change?r=2kx8r6&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true bonzono: loin, are you only just now figuring out that the temperature/GHG situation we're seeing now, is absolutely unique? really? you're a bit slow on the uptake aren't ya kid? Did you not realise that it is exactly BECAUSE this situation is unique and not ever observed in the last at least 800 thousand years, that it's of so much interest? lol.. and you wonder why I laugh at you. Sir Loin: You didn't answer my question Bozo. Oh yes you can't because you know nothing about climate. Sir Loin: Gail, Zykra I'd like to address the following for your comments. Bozo don't even bother trying, this is WAY above your pay grade. Ashley mentioned earlier the polar vortex behaving like a wounded snake writhing around; this is also taking place in the SH. The Polar Vortex is generally high up in the stratosphere at the 10 hpa level, 30km altitude. It appears there is an unusual warming of the stratosphere. This warming can't realistically be attributed to CO2 since there is so little that high up. What would you attribute it to? Bearing in mind the tropopause preventing much mixing between layers and CO2 being relatively dense so doesn't easily rise. The effect of this is a near collapse of the vortex which contains the polar jet stream which in turn, prevents cold polar air escaping into lower latitudes. Currently NZ is experiencing rather unpleasant incursions of cold polar air moving over us as any high pressure cells travel through around 50-60 deg south. I didn't pay a lot of attention what happened to your winter as I was waiting for the SH summer to arrive, did you have a similar winter? Colder and wetter than normal? Down in the SH we're observing significant perturbations in normal ocean currents: despite a cool summer, SSTs are much higher than normal and quite often tropical fish species are found. Even a leatherback turtle. High ocean temps mean greater evaporation and cloud cover = more precipitation = increasing ice formation = higher albedo and lower temps in the troposphere I'd be grateful to see any explanations for the above from you and Ashley the 3 of you have shown ability in Critical Thought unlike the troll who comments so prolifically | Science Chat Room 1 Person Chatting Similar Conversations |
