Why is the climate changing. (Page 204) ghostgeek: The world's been living in the "End Times" since before somebody sharpened his quill and wrote the first Gospel. ghostgeek: Are the end times stacking up for California? People have worked for a century to make California’s Tulare Basin into a food grower’s paradise. That pastoral landscape now looks more like the Pacific Ocean in many areas. Months of atmospheric river storms have pummeled the area and saturated the basin’s soil, which sits about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, not far from Fresno. The rains have led to floods that damaged towns and deluged farms and have begun to refill what was once a sprawling lake. The floods have pitted neighboring property owners against one another and raised tensions over how to manage the flows, which have damaged hundreds of structures. And more water is on the way. Experts say a monthslong, slow-burning crisis will play out next: A historic snowpack looms in the mountains above the basin — as it melts, it is likely to put downstream communities through months of torment. The flooding, which follows several years of extreme drought, showcases the weather whiplash typical of California, which vacillates between too wet and too dry. The influence of climate change can make the state’s extremes more intense. So what caused the cooling, and why did it last for so long? (Post deleted by kittybobo34 ) kittybobo34: No it means the ocean currents were feeding moisture into the Jet stream in a pattern that we haven't seen for 75 years. Generally the warming scenarios have meant desert for the Southwest. But, weather patterns are becoming more and more unpredictable as the Jet stream wanders even more erratically every year. I recall looking at Jet stream patterns in the 40's and 50's they were straight across the country, moved a little north and South per the season, once it even split in the 80's, but now it dives straight south then swings straight north carrying all sorts of storms along with it. kittybobo34: Air pollution is another varying factor, from factories and volcano's. Extra pollution equals cooling. GeraldtheGnome: Usually I would go on about science here, I will not this time though, I just found out that Barry Humphries died/karked it. GeraldtheGnome: Mistakes were made on this forum. There still is no need for the word and at the beginning of any sentence, commas have been used too often also. I am so sick and tired of the global warming myth. Sea levels aren't rising, average temperatures have not risen in most places, some places have remained the same, other places the average has risen and in others it has lowered. Dodgy figures have come out from doomsday scientists at times to scare the crap out of paranoid people by fear mongering, it is rather religious like by the way it is done. The tired line of 'emissions' . No one can control the temperature by the way of thinking that the whole planet works like an air conditioner where Humans are the ones who can control what happens, it's ignorant, it's arrogant and it is ridiculous. I've experienced worse than what was in the last video and the end of days nonsense is ridiculous. The message above this one is grammatically incorrect anyway. There is no global warming going on right now by Humans and/or by any other life form. Everywhere is made up of moving plates, in the distant future long after we are gone there will most likely be global warming and/or global cooling by natural means. I really hate the way the word humanity is usually used. Pollution is a real problem, especially air pollution, just concentrate on that without the superstitious nonsense. Scare mongering/fear mongering and outright pessimism versus reality never helped anyone. ghostgeek: Yep, there's a monster cloud alright, and it's stuck over the UK. Bleeding freezing it is here and all so sodding politicians can feel good. ghostgeek: While they are being promoted around the world as a crucial weapon in reducing carbon emissions, solar panels only have a lifespan of up to 25 years. Experts say billions of panels will eventually all need to be disposed of and replaced. "The world has installed more than one terawatt of solar capacity. Ordinary solar panels have a capacity of about 400W, so if you count both rooftops and solar farms, there could be as many as 2.5 billion solar panels.," says Dr Rong Deng, an expert in solar panel recycling at the University of New South Wales in Australia. According to the British government, there are tens of millions of solar panels in the UK. But the specialist infrastructure to scrap and recycle them is lacking. Energy experts are calling for urgent government action to prevent a looming global environmental disaster. "It's going to be a waste mountain by 2050, unless we get recycling chains going now," says Ute Collier, deputy director of the International Renewable Energy Agency. "We're producing more and more solar panels - which is great - but how are we going to deal with the waste?" she asks. [ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-65602519 ] ghostgeek: "Over 60% of the value is contained in 3% of the weight of the solar panels," he says. The team at Soren are hopeful that, in the future, nearly three-quarters of the materials needed to make new solar panels - including silver - can be recovered from retired PV units and recycled - to help speed up production of new panels. Currently there is not enough silver available to build the millions of solar panels which will be required in the the transition from fossil fuels, says Mr Defrenne: "You can see where you have a production bottleneck, it's silver." [ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-65602519 ] kittybobo34: Like all these situations though it takes a level of quantity to make recycling work. But, will they think ahead and keep all the old used solar panels in one place. GeraldtheGnome: Though I don’t agree with most things that Michael Moore goes on about when he gets into his greenie, tree hugging myths like you two do, I agree with him about the production of solar panels. You both think that they are wonderful and have never once thought about looking behind the scenes and also hearing that the wonderful solar panels, even after they have become useless are not what they are cracked up to be. Solar Panels aren’t ‘alive’ so I do not usually refer to them as old, rather that they are dated. Mistakes were made on this forum. Carbon emissions ? The myth of evil carbon again, without carbon there would be no life forms converting it into oxygen and the carbon based life forms on this forum that are for myths (yet not know that they are myths) would not have had their little complaint session on here about ‘evil carbon emissions’ at all. You are both delusional on the subject, you both have a religious like bias approach to the subject and you both have so far used confirmation bias. ghostgeek: Gerald, you forgot to mention commas. Is the weight of carbon dioxide on top of your head affecting you? ghostgeek: If it's politicians who are expected to think ahead, then the world may have a problem. Their only interest is in keeping their jobs, so if the green lobby shouts loud enough solar panels will no doubt one day be expected to be biodegradable. ghostgeek: Seems it's not such a daft idea: The largest source of planet-warming emissions is energy consumption for industrial and domestic purposes. According to The International Energy Agency, two-thirds of global greenhouse gas emissions are associated with fossil fuel use for electricity, transportation, heating, and industry. Fortunately, Adán Ramirez Sánchez, a 23-year-old Mexican biotechnologist, found a solution in algae. His invention – Intelligent Solar Biopanels made of microalgae and carbon nanoparticles – generates clean energy and oxygen while absorbing carbon dioxide. Meaning, they combine nature with technology to clean the air while generating electricity. ... The Biopanels are entirely biodegradable and made of an abundant renewable marine material, a fresh contrast to current solar panels on the market, which generate landfills when they’re discarded. They also produce biomass, which can make secondary products like fertilizer and contribute further to a circular economy model. [ https://www.intelligentliving.co/innovator-of-the-year-biodegradable-algae-solar-panels/ ] GeraldtheGnome: You still go off your planet warming myth, Carbon is what life is based on, no Carbon then no Ghostgeek pushing myths, no me and no other Human and no other life form. Carbon Dioxide is not some dreaded gas. Mistakes were made on this forum, that refers to any mistake, it doesn’t matter if it is about too many commas or to how hyphens have been used or to anything else. Things need to be made better during the manufacturing process and during the time after they are useful. They also need to be more effective. I’m proud that a rellie/relative of mine who is 16 has been asked to take part in some new experimental hydrogen car technology program. I have told him for many years now even back to when he was very cute and little that I have the feeling that he will invent something one day. I still think that he will. Things really need to be more efficient, more reliable and cheaper. ghostgeek: Gerald, are you saying that Australia is actually cooling? Doesn't seem to be borne out by the records: Australia’s climate has warmed since national records began in 1910. Australia's average temperature has increased on average by 1.44 ± 0.24 °C since national records began in 1910. Since 1950, every decade has been warmer than the decade before. Both day and night-time temperatures have increased. Australia’s warmest year on record was 2019, with the temperature 1.52°C above average. Very high monthly maximum temperatures that occurred 2% of the time in 1960–1989, occurred 4% of the time during 1990-2004 and now occur 12% of the time (2005–2019). Oceans around Australia have warmed by around 1°C since 1910. [ https://www.climatechange.environment.nsw.gov.au/australian-climate-change-observations ] GeraldtheGnome: So like you did in another forum, a religious one, about something that I didn’t imply or even state what you thought I implied or stated, you have decided that I mentioned something that I did not come out with at all. For a start on this text based sight I have never said anything to you. If I am saying something then I am literally speaking to someone right this moment, that is not the case. Even what you mentioned if I literally spoke to you would mean after I said it that I said something. I am not falsely claiming that Australia is warmer or cooler or hotter or colder. Thanks for the misleading information that you supplied though, it was like the blind led the blind who then lead another blind person. You religious like bias and confirmation bias on the subject has you pushing your far left agenda way too much with your global warming/fear mongering/tree hugging myth. It’s a typical socialist agenda if I have ever seen one. Stop being pessimistic and being brainwashed by doomsday scientists. I actually live in Australia, I have also travelled to many parts of New South Wales too. It takes me probably two hours drive south to get to the closest northern part of it. I prefer to use spaces before question marks and colons. Enjoy the Mandela effect, sometimes you totally miss the point of what I have told you. I told you on that religious forum that I got misled for a while, due to misleading sources, one being Wikipedia, that the name God was first used by Germanic/Goth/Arian people, you thought I claimed that you claimed that. That’s all that you got out of it. Well I did not think that and you missed the point. If you looked further and read it properly at the time then you would notice that it was me that got misled by the sources that I used and that I, unlike you, which was the message I was unsuccessfully trying to get across to you, question what I think whenever I can to find out what is right. You, The New South Wales State Government and whoever the doomsday scientist was that they got the information off have not and still don’t question and challenge their own way of thinking. So keep being ignorant and arrogant about what you believe is true just like they do or actually question and challenge your own bloody thoughts. Then again you are the one who looks at things that are only in religious stories and nowhere else and thinks that the story is true to some degree. That’s an extremely flawed way of thinking. Don’t be optimistic about something or pessimistic about something, just be realistic about whatever the subject is. That will be a new thing for you in regards to some of the things that you do on this site. | Science Chat Room 5 People Chatting Similar Conversations |
