Why are so many anti science? This includes anti GMO, anti vaccine, anti evolution, and believing in woo.

AretoNyx
AretoNyx: Jilly Juice, coffee enemas, urine therapy, and so on. I see people cherry pick what is science often. Including left and right leaning politically into conspiracy. Also those giving opinionated stereotypes instead of evidence, having cult like views rather than evidence, and in general into woo. I really would like to know why people are ignorant about science or even effort censorship of it more.

I do not believe in Creationism so I don't talk about it and I don't think Evolution is Science so I don't think about it.

US Education and the Catholics; the Catholics supported the Nazi regimes and still think of the Master Race, the US school want to stamp everybody into the same mould and hopes that some will think they are evolving into Government workers. not least because the Police were mostly Germans.

Bad science cannot be the fault of Good science. Sociology should insist that scientists answer the question "Is it going to be Bad Sociology ??"

AretoNyx: So you think Neo Nazis are supported by all Catholics now? To generalize and stereotype groups I do not think very scientific, and to say only Catholics or creationists could be anti science is not what I am saying.

Tin foil hats come in all sorts of groups, and people can have different ideas with even hypothesis of sorts. Myths of what science is , and pseudo science does not mean that automatically to assume that evidence can not be found. Science is a process so if empirical evidence is there then as well can be tested, but I expect people to still have biases and beliefs any how. One does not have to be theist, religious , or be in whatever cult to be the only ones with beliefs . This includes beliefs having no evidence in burden of proof.

You really do not seem to understand what science is or results of it. Such as without it internet would not exist. The belief only bad science is because government or corporate theories of what ever seems unrealistic.

To say US school systems or world wide government school systems stamp only one way is inaccurate. There are many different kinds of schools from public various state to state in US verses others world wide. This includes home schooling.
To think everyone from school system understanding maths and reading leads only to government work is not accurate.

So what do you think of vaccines? Do you think Jilly Juice and random homeopathic alternative meds good science?

AretoNyx: Pseudoscience kind of woo.

"Woo, also called woo-woo, is a term for pseudoscientific explanations that share certain common characteristics, often being too good to be true (aside from being unscientific). "

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pseudoscience

"Woo-woo (or just plain woo) refers to ideas considered irrational or based on extremely flimsy evidence or that appeal to mysterious occult forces or powers."

lori100: here's more science woo....-----Scientists show future events decide what happens in the past

www.digitaljournal.com/science/experiment-shows...decide.../434829 ---------An experiment by Australian scientists has proven that what happens to particles in the past is only decided when they are observed and measured in the future. Until such time, reality is just an abstraction. -------------Quantum laws tend to contradict common sense. At that level, one thing can be two different things simultaneously and be at two different places at the same time. Two particles can be entangled and, when one changes its state, the other will also do so immediately, even if they are at opposite ends of the universe – seemingly acting faster than the speed of light.
Particles can also tunnel through solid objects, which should normally be impenetrable barriers, like a ghost passing through a wall. And now scientists have proven that, what is happening to a particle now, isn't governed by what has happened to it in the past, but by what state it is in the future – effectively meaning that, at a subatomic level, time can go backwards.-----------------------------------------------pass through a wall....2 different places at the same time.....crazy science stuff.....sounds like they were right ...there is no matter or time as we know it.......only energy....

AretoNyx: No human is perfect, and can be fooled or even bias. Including doctors and scientists even at times. That is not my point to say that scientists know more or less , but just generally people.

“You know what they call alternative medicine that's been proved to work? - Medicine.” - Tim Minchin

("Take those frauds who practice pseudoscience - do you know who they're most afraid of?"

"Scientists, of course."

"No. Many of the best scientists can be fooled by pseudoscience and sometimes devote their lives to it. But pseudoscience is afraid of one particular type of people who are very hard to fool: stage magicians. In fact, many pseudoscience hoaxes were exposed by stage magicians."

AretoNyx: Alternative meds that also include rhino horn and tiger parts. Endangered animals trafficked , counterfeit meds trafficked , and con artists with snake oil made up remedies that only act as sugar pills. Healing happens but you should go to knowledgeable eye doctor as specialist rather than those that have little knowledge of what goes on. So you say faith healing helped you from being blind?
