Mini Ice Age? (Page 57)

Sir Loin
Sir Loin: I was helping my son with a highschool project on natural hazards when we discovered clear evidence of a previously unknown submarine volcano. A large lump of limestone tightly wrapped in a layer of basalt. So no Kitty, the navy hasn't discovered them all. Some parts of the world are still too wild and rough to tempt them for exploration, even if the fishing is great 😀

Sir Loin: Dunc, I've been following news of that iceburg recently. These huge burgs break off periodically, one drifted up past NZ a few years ago, its time another large one broke off the Ross Ice Shelf now to enable the Adele penguins to reach the coast from their nesting grounds.

Etna keeps the beat. About every two days another powerful lava fountaining episode.

"....Very weak and intermittent strombolian activity restarted at the crater probably during the afternoon or early evening yesterday. At around 22:56, this activity began to increase quickly, along with a sharp increase of volcanic tremor to high values. By 23:45 had reached the stage of continuous, tall lava fountains rising several hundred meters. The eruption column produced an ash plume that rose to approx. 6000 m above sea level. The peak phase occurred around midnight and lasted until about 00:20, when activity - as usual - dropped sharply and more or less ceased." Volcanodiscovery.

So the 48 hour rhythm goes on with just minor adjustments. This seems to be very much connected to the oceans.

But will Mt Etna produce the weather altering sky darkening clouds? Or is it now just a side show to this extremely hot weather we are experiencing??

The latest ones happened Saturday evening (19 June 2021) between 20:45-21:30 local time and this night between around midnight to 1:45 am this morning.

In both cases, strombolian activity started to reappear about an hour before the lava fountaining phase, then quickly intensified to merge into fountains, which abruptly ceased after reaching their peak phase with heights of several hundred meters. " Volcanodiscovery.

A stage for drama with the volcano quiet then suddenly within an hour there are small earth movements and then fountains of lava hundreds of meters high.

...The lava fountains reached 400-500 m height and produced an eruption column that rose to 9-10 km above sea level, again drifting towards the ESE where heavy ash and lapilli fall occurred, in particular in the town of Linguaglossa.

The paroxysm lasted approx. one hour and activity rapidly decreased around 1 pm "

" What caused this change is not completely clear, but one likely scenario is that the magma column dropped temporarily and caused internal collapses in the emptied parts of conduits. "

The change is to splashing types of paroxysms, but how much gas and fine dust is being vented and can nature manage small amounts ??

Is the harvest already in the bag for this year and it just wouldn't matter now anyway???

The sequence of events was almost identical to the previous events, but this time, the eruption seems to have been significantly stronger as it produced a tall eruptive column that rose to estimated 11 km altitude.

..... sustained tall lava fountains by 22:45, lasting for about 2 hours until 00:45 this morning.

Heavy lapilli and ash fall occurred on the southern and eastern sectors of Etna, including Zafferana Etnea, Fleri, Pedara and Cannizzaro." Volcanodiscovery

"Powerful lava fountain episode Wednesday noon sends ash to Calabria....

Following 5 and a half day of quiet, the New SE crater produced yet another paroxysm, and one of the most powerful ones in the current series, perhaps as a result of the longer-then-usual interval that had passed since the previous episode Thursday evening last week

...around 1 pm, lasted for approx. one hour and half. During the peak phase from 1.40-2.20 pm, the lava fountains reached 600-1000 m in height and produced a thick eruption column that rose to more than 9000 m above sea level, which drifted NE, causing lapilli and ash fall as far as Taormina and Reggio Calabria. Volcanoes fall silent, Etna has made no reports since Wednesday, above, the clouds finally clear and the temperatures rocket towards the blue sky.

The dust and ash clouded the skys or the oceans made the rain and the volcanoes to erupt??
