So the old PV wins??

By edging across Europe to Siberia and then causing the NPPV to go over land in Alaska the old vortex will succeed in regaining its throne at the North Pole.

Nullschool predicts the PV will be able to glide back to pole position by the start of February, but also that the fast disappearing NPPV will reappear back at the Gates to Europe. Ready to make more storms in the north Pacific no doubt.

Storms in the Atlantic and heavy air movements increase the eruptions and on the 18th of January Mount Etna had a much larger eruption than normal.

Not to mention the increase in NEOs and bolides.....

The NPPV sensing the old PVs stratagem disappeared from the north coast of Canada yesterday and reappeared over the Sea of Orkhetsk,.... or another NPPV appeared there just as the other disappeared amongst the islands of Nunavut yesterday.

Two more storms have arrived where the others were at the north of the Pacific too....

Nullschool now predicts the polar region will be divided by the two vortexes by the end of the week.

By the 31st the centre of the old PV will be over the Norwegian Sea and the centre of the NPPV will be over the Arctic Ocean but still at the Gates between Russia and Alaska.

The NPPV looks to be winning the stratospheric wresting match as it inches into the Arctic Ocean and the old PV fades.

If the NPPV takes over what will be the effect of the change in the direction of rotation of the high winds??

The Old PV wins and takes control of the stratosphere but doesn't regain its Polar centre instead it is caught on the coast of Greenland and is already beginning to stretch.

The NPPV has almost disappeared back in to the North Pacific where no doubt it will make more storms.

The extra cold winds which made up the NPPV seem to have slipped south and are covering North America and the north Atlantic prolonging this cold spell in the UK with very cold winds.

If the collapse of the Polar Vortex had happen in another way then this could have been a much longer snowy winter. In the UK we had heavier rains just before the start of this snow which if they had come together with the freeze and these strong winds would have made a seriously cold few weeks.

I bet that this summer will be another warmer one because of the extra High Pressure over Siberia means more rain and less snow in Russia and warmer weather there means a warmer end to summer in Europe.

SWE is wisely looking at the oceans as such large high or low pressures effect the oceans,...

The Old PV is alone in the polar regions but not near the old pole.

It has taken a long time to cross Greenland and its centre is now only just over the boarder and into Canada.

Much smaller but a good circle the Old PV has spilt much of the extra cold wind across North America.

The Jet stream had become very confused when the PV collapse was at it peak but seems more together now as the southern hemisphere becomes more and more active.

SWE predicts the PV will return to the old pole by later March,...

https://www.severe-weather.eu/weather-trends/polar-circulation-spring-weather-united-states-europe-fa/

...in its colourful page it shows the two large cold areas one with the PV and the other over Russia with out, but I don't think the PV is not going to last much longer than that anyway.

The Spring Equinox...

" THE MARCH EQUINOX
In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox (aka spring equinox or vernal equinox) occurs when the Sun crosses the equator line, heading north in the sky. This event marks the start of spring in the northern half of the globe. After this date, the Northern Hemisphere begins to be tilted more toward the Sun, resulting in increasing daylight hours and warming temperatures. (In the Southern Hemisphere, it’s the opposite: the March equinox marks the start of autumn, as the Southern Hemisphere begins to be tilted away from the Sun.)" Old Farmers Almanac.

...will soon be here and the official start of spring. and soon after that will be the start of our golden summer, which will be warmer than normal I have already predicted....

And no one is talking of Global Warming.

It could be the start of a Medieval Warm Period for our new world order.

It looks like another bout of volcanic activity there but even if it is the volcano is underground and doesn't usually explode upwards.

On the other hand, as we have discussed earlier some pages back when the seismic tremors were coinciding with powerful storms, parts of Iceland have suffered from erosion and the earthquakes could be a response to seawater reaching further underground.

The Watchers has a page about it.
