If the collapse of the Polar Vortex had happen in another way then this could have been a much longer snowy winter. In the UK we had heavier rains just before the start of this snow which if they had come together with the freeze and these strong winds would have made a seriously cold few weeks. I bet that this summer will be another warmer one because of the extra High Pressure over Siberia means more rain and less snow in Russia and warmer weather there means a warmer end to summer in Europe. It has taken a long time to cross Greenland and its centre is now only just over the boarder and into Canada. Much smaller but a good circle the Old PV has spilt much of the extra cold wind across North America. The Jet stream had become very confused when the PV collapse was at it peak but seems more together now as the southern hemisphere becomes more and more active.
