The Watchers has more details.

"Four new <1 LD Apollo-class asteroids were detected at Catalina and Mt. Lemmon sky surveys on November 17, 2018. Three of them, including the second closest of the year, flew past our planet on November 16 and 18 while the fourth is expected at 23:23 UTC today, November 19. The total number of known <1LD asteroids this year now stands at 66."The Watchers.

"A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 WE1 flew past Earth at a very close distance of 0.28 LD / 0.00071 AU (106 214 km / 65 998 miles) on November 25, 2018. This is the 68th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year and the 12th so far this month.

This object was first observed at ATLAS-MLO, Mauna Loa, Hawaii on November 26, one day after it made its closest approach to our planet." The Watchers.

The Watchers also has an interesting graph of NEO approaches this year which shows sudden increases in the cold winter months after a strangely organized decline in the warmer months.

Another close miss on the 2nd of December, the third closest this year.

"A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 WV1 will make a very close approach to our planet at 03:11 UTC on December 2, 2018. The object will flyby Earth at a distance of 0.09 LD / 0.00022 AU (32 911 km / 20 450 miles) - third closest this year.

This object belongs to the Apollo group of asteroids and has an estimated diameter between 2.5 and 5.6 m (8.2 and 18.3 feet).

It was first observed at Catalina Sky Survey, Arizona on November 29, 2018, three days before its close approach."

https://watchers.news/2018/11/30/asteroid-2018-wv1/

NASA gives the stats as, 2018 WV1, 2018-Dec-02, 0.1 LD away and travelling at 5.2km/s and 3m wide.

This NEO has been spotted approaching and so someone must be looking forward to Christmas, ha ha!

I don't know. The environment destruction and change there was very bad a long time ago when these blips were also spotted. Maybe it came from Australia? It seems to have gotten bigger.

Comets, meteors and cold winds for the weekend. Did the dust from space cause the winds?

Is it an omen?

Comets always meant something to observers before they were passed off as known science. This one seems to have something to do with biting cold winds.

Perhaps it will be all over and warm for Christmas. A date now popular with comets.

"More than a dozen testimonials were received from observers from the South West of France who observed at 22h 12min (French local time) this extremely brilliant racing car *: it seems that it has reached the magnitude - 15, nearly 10 times the brightness of the Full Moon shining in the sky on the evening of December 22! The object was recorded by 3 cameras of the FRIPON network (Fireball Recovery and Interplanetary Observation Network), since Dax (40), Hendaye (64) and Montsec (Spain), but also by three cameras of the Spanish network SPMN (Spanish Meteor and Fireball Network) , on the other side of the Pyrenean barrier."FRIPON

Mount Etna has had its largest eruption in ten years from a side vent sending dust and clouds into the sky over the holidays along with an earthquake. As this season seemed to feature more sightings along a corridor stretching from Gibraltar to Greece Etnas big do might well at least change the observations of if not the paths of meteors.

From experience, I would guess that the Middle East would be a good place to watch until the volcano subsides again.

duncan124: Spaceweather takes the opportunity to update yesterdays more dramatic paragraph about AS5 to include images.

"CLOSE ASTEROID FLYBY: On Jan. 8th, asteroid 2019 AS5 flew past Earth only 8600 km above our planet's surface. Nine hours after the flyby, it was discovered by the the Mt. Lemmon Survey telescope in Arizona. The asteroid was closer to our planet than many satellites. This diagram shows 2019 AS5 inside the orbits of GPS .....

..If the 1 to 2 meter-wide space rock had hit Earth (and it almost did) it would have caused a brilliant fireball in the atmosphere with sonic booms and scattered meteorites on the ground--but no serious damage.

Earth's gravity significantly bent the asteroid's orbit during the flyby. To illustrate this effect,...."

Despite the experience from Russia, where far smaller asteroids have been shown to cause significant damage and injury even in less populated areas Spaceweather repeats the mantra that there was no danger and so is clearly going into the unknown.

Perhaps some statistical look at these objects that change path around the earth should be undertaken to see if it was the effect of gravity or indeed if it wasn't a UFO!

Another quickly followed AS5 on the 12th of January.

2019 AE9, 2019-Jan-12, 0.3 LD away and 13m wide.

If these two were part of a stream then it is reasonable to say there were far smaller dust and rocks coming along with them.

And at over six times the size of AS5 it did pose a serious threat in itself.

Floating objects in the sky? No, it is the weather phenomena called chaff. Caused in part by hot and cold weather close together. I have seen it myself in the US but not as big as this recent spate of Youtubes suggest it now is. I have also seen it in Australia near the natural gas pipeline outlet.

I think I might have mentioned this before in this thread or another but the size of the radar blips seems to indicate it has grown bigger and so means far more water is flowing underground than before.

I don't think it was near the moon. From experience at other eclipses when there were millions watching it was hitting Earths atmosphere.

" AURORAS IN CANADA AND THE USA: For the 3rd day in a row, Earth is inside a stream of high-speed solar wind,... Last night in Churchill, Manotiba, "the entire sky turned green," reports Alan Dyer....The display was so intense, it spilled over into the USA.... wide hole in the sun's atmosphere--so wide that we may feel its emissions for another 24 to 48 hours" Spaceweather.

America is certainly getting the weather. If there were people there to see things I bet there are a lot of strange effects happening.

But the story is being told the other way around, in this cold weather on the internet at least,....people were moved out of the way for those strange or powerful things to happen.

"A meteor exploded over the island of Mayotte, South Indian Ocean on February 18, 2019, sparking panic among residents.

According to a statement released by the Mayotte Prefecture, the explosion took place at 21:30 local time (18:30 UTC).

"Some of the testimonies collected suggest a bright fireball in the Mahoran sky. However, emergency services, police, and firefighters said no particular event occurred in the territory," officials said.

All aerial and maritime information provided by the specialized services suggest that the observed phenomenon took place at sea, off the coast of Mahor." Thewatchers.
