Multiverse: Is it just a theory? Or is it real?

DawnGurl
DawnGurl: The Multiverse theory for the universe has been a recently accepted theory that describes the continuous formation of universes through the collapse of giant stars and the formation of black holes. With each of these black holes there is a new point of singularity and a new possible universe. As Rees describes it, "Our universe may be just one element - one atom, as it were - in an infinite ensemble: a cosmic archipelago. Each universe starts with its own big bang, acquires a distinctive imprint (and its individual physical laws) as it cools, and traces out its own cosmic cycle. The big bang that triggered our entire universe is, in this grander perspective, an infinitesimal part of an elaborate structure that extends far beyond the range of any telescopes." (Rees 3) This puts our place in the Multiverse into a small spectrum. While the size of the earth in relation to the sun is minuscule, the size of the sun, the solar system, the galaxy, and even the universe, could pale in comparison to this proposed Multiverse. It would be a shift in thinking that may help explain our big bang theory and possibly give light to the idea of parallel universes.

Multiverse Theory

What do you think? Can we be the only universe? Or are there parallel universes out there? Mathmatics also suggests parallel universes. Your opinion?

RichisBigPoppa66: i think if the multiverse is real, then time travel i also real, and probably already occurring. if someone was to go back in time and alter the events of the future, you would then create an alternate reality, hence another universe reality.

Comrade_: I wonder if this thread appeared in the other parallel universes. Maybe myself is commenting something very intellectual there and something trollolol in the other. Or I'm not commenting at all Why wouldn't myself comment? Because in that universe he is more interested in another thread and not science...maybe they've guessed that I'd comment. There's no free will!

Corwin: That's a very good point, Jack.

In fact, according to multiverse theory, there would actually be an infinite number of universes, where every single possible permutation of reality would be expressed. Which means that in one of these universes, you would not only have no free will, and have no choice but to post here, but you could also be a hermaphroditic albino circus-midget with a tendency to use these forums to spam links to your Human/Extraterrestrial Watersports Video and Photo-gallery Members-only website.

In such a universe, you would likely get frequent suspensions from Wireclub, and I would suffer outrageous credit-card bills.

The truth is out there!

DawnGurl: Or flip that around Corvy; in another dimension people are smiling and laughing while their Govt just hands out money and various boons to its citizens. There are no wars or poverty.

Those people speculate in horror at a world in which people must perform tasks to survive; turn themselves inside out and go hither and yon to find a suitable mate, resort to impersonal antiseptically sterile electronics to communicate, and live a mere 80 or 90 years.

GeraldTheGnome: I hope there are parallel universes/Earths and other dimensions, I've highlighted them in comic strips that I have made. I don't know if they are but I really hope they are. I'm not ruling any of what I just typed on here out.

surely you can discuss a multiverse theory without trying to share your atheistic problems to the world no?

near50ohoh: who says i'm atheistic? just learned a new word that describes me better actually. it is panentheistic: i believe in a creator of the universe who is more than his creation and bigger than any one religion can contain. but that never stops me from a good debate. why u presume 2 know without asking is beyond me!!?
