DawnGurl: Although this question may at first sound like a Zen koan, yet it raises an interesting point: When did hats begin wearing humans?
We all assume that we humanoids are the main feature and the hat a mere flourish, but what if hats evolved first, and we humans evolved in order to satisfy the demands of The Hat; a primal evolutionary drive to be useful to hats?
Such a proposition would flip the whole of evolutionary theory on its (hat-wearing?) head. I propose such investigation begin at once. The search for proto-hats and tail-sporting hats would be a lifetime endeavor.
Just a thought......

Corwin: What did I miss, Dawn?

But yes... very good point... I will at once look further back into the fossil record. We have been going on the mere assumption that Humans came first BEFORE the hats... this kind of preconceived notion makes for bad Science.

Aura:
Man and hat were once joined living blissfully in paradise until the gods got jealous. They separated the two and hat and man are now forced to wander the earth, lost and cold, until they find each other and live in bliss once more

DawnGurl: Yes, that is the rumor. It has been said that Hawkings tried to introduce his own head gear, the so-called " Hawkings Helmet", which resembled a cross between an American football helmet and a fedora. Having failed miserably in the marketplace, he consoled himself by writing the above brief history. His family denies this rumor, however. But close friends, to whom he is known as "Sugar Tits," confirm the rumor as true.

Oh, and I will soon be posting PROOF that T-Rex wore hats, millions of years before the appearance of Man.
