Can we please Geoff: Take all of the UFO threads and move them over to the Religion forum where they belong. There is nothing scientific or technological in these superstitions, despite their modern slant. StuckInTheSixties: Despite the "technological" aroma, the beliefs of UFO nuts are based on the exact same thing as religious believers: faith. Geoff: And the fact that said faith skews their perspective of evidence. So visitors from another world becomes the accepted response. Instead of, "Hmm, there's a top secret air force base around here somewhere. Where they develop top secret planes. I wonder if that could be the reason for those funny lights in the sky?" StuckInTheSixties: The UFO nuts in Science & Technology have their value, though. They provide amusement. _Nicotina_: U.F.O.'s do exist. They are flying objects, that we have no damn idea (at the moment) what they are. Hence Unidentifiable Flying Object. Granted, it might later be found that it was indeed a pair of granny's knickers that just flew off the washing line... again! Hey, people could worship them. Karma: What's the difference between an honest lawyer and a UFO? I don't know, I've never seen either one. Morsy: In the 80's here in Australia it really took off, there were books, photo's...sightings galore and witness accounts but like any fly by night fad it faded into the night. However I am amazed at the huge following popping up again.....oh well each to their own. StuckInTheSixties: When one of those things lands on the lawn in front of the White House, then I'll buy into UFOs. oooREDEYEooo: 'SCIENTIFIC-FANATICS-ARE-NEVER-WRONG' ! ..."science stated Pluto was a planet and then changed it's mind and stated was a star"... oooSO-ALL-THAT-TIME-IN-BETWEEN-MUST-OF-BEEN-AN-UNIDENTIFIED-FLYING-OBJECT-EYEooo StuckInTheSixties: "science stated Pluto was a planet and then changed it's mind and stated was a star" (laughs) That's not even close to what actually happened! No one EVER said pluto was a "star." Jeesh! Every third grader knows better than that! Pluto was re-designated from a "planet" to a "dwarf planet." Jeezus, how WRONG can you be!?! Astronomy isn't your strong suit, is it? What's funny is that the point you've inadvertantly made is actually the reverse of your intent. You seem to be saying that if science "changes it's mind," that illustrates that something is wrong with science. The redesignation of Pluto actually illustrates the honesty and openmindedness of science. Science is flexible. When newer, better, more accurate data becomes available, it is utilized. Science does, indeed, "change it's mind." But you apparently consider that to be a bad thing. Smiling_Bandito: Sixties knows me, and knows that I believe in aliens. He believes that I am making a faith based arguement and due the lack of evidence in my favor he may have a point there. However, something we can both agree on is that these aliens aint here. I look at it like this. If they were here, why in the world would they spend their time out in the middle of nowhere scaring hicks and trailer park trash? What do humans have that is of any concievable value to a space traveling civilization? If they wanted our real estate they could juss take it and there ain't much we could do about it. If they wanted to study us then they could watch the discovery channel. It ain't like we haven't beaming our signal into space for the last 70 years or so. If they wanted to szx~wy us up for alien probes and all that nonsense then I gotta believe their stealth technology is such that we'd neva see them. After all, humans don't have space travel yet we are already developing (or at least doing R&D) on vehicles that are effectively invisible. Could one of the UFO believers really tell me why any advanced alien race would go through all the effort to come here and observe humans. Also, please tell me how a race smart enough to develop space travel could be stupid enough to get caught on film. I could think of a few far fetched things, but they would be more in line as a s***** for a bad B-movie than an advanced alien civ. StuckInTheSixties: Note how Wireclub censors the word "scr1pt." It's a conspiracy. Aliens are behind it. Geoff: Actually **puts on technical hat** - The word "s c r i p t" is blocked because it could potentially be used to hack Wireclub or used within a posted URL to direct users to a harmful website. I personally don't believe that anything could be much more harmful than: www.billygraham.org but notice how wire doesn't censor any of that. _Nicotina_: Did someone say "Teapot" ? Could just go for a cuppa... Oh Russell. lol I'll bring spaghetti. djdan2: I might go and post my scientific understanding of evolution in the religion forum to return the favour StuckInTheSixties: That's a popular Wireclub sport - antagonize the fundamentalist Christians with an Evolution thread in the Religion Forum. I've done it myself a few times. Smiling_Bandito: I'm a Christian who believes in evolution. Does that make me wrong or just not stupid???? _Nicotina_: Aren't those mutually exclusive? An explanation of how you can reconcile those two would be interesting to me. Smiling_Bandito: Easy. The bible is a guideline on how you are supposed to live your life, not literal truth. Fundamental Christians believe it is literal, that the earth is only 6000 years old or therabouts, and that every species that ever existed just popped up out of nothing.
