davidk14: Pokerjoker,

I believe that "god" created the big bang which created everything in the universe. Anything and everything from that moment on is science. Therefore, "god" created science.

Hope this works for you.

XFixYourBrainX: Ok Davy how old are you again?

And no that doesnt work for me actually, but I used to think that God created the big bang, but I was confused and now Im on the true path of finding the truth.

XFixYourBrainX: Also you may think what your saying is rational, but there is one problem!

Your saying that God created the big bang and science.

Well......

You would first have to prove there is a God, in order for your theory to be a correct and accurate one. Your theory doesnt fit what science calls, a real, "theory."

David Said: Well…let’s see…Prove to me that there is no “God”?

Therefore, my theory still is plausible. You’re on the path for looking for the truth. What truth? If there is or isn’t “God”? Good luck. I promise and absolutely 100.000000% sure you will be looking for the answer for the rest of your life.

However, if you ever do find the truth, please contact me.

Oh, you asked how old am I? I’m three days older than “God”. Prove me wrong.

StuckInTheSixties: There's no proof either way, is there?

I like science. I like rational explanations for things. I also like the open-mindedness of science, the idea that while scientific explanations may very well PRAGMATICALLY provide "the truth," CONCEPTUALLY, science only provides "the best available explanation at this time," hence, the use of the term "theory."

I do wish, however, that a special word besides "theory" could have been adopted so that the religious wouldn't have that quirk of semantics to dwell on.

If there's no readily available rational explanation for something, such as an answer to the "God" question, it doesn't necessarily disprove anything. And it certainly doesn't necessarily prove anything either.

So to my mind, the only rational position is that of the agnostic, the willingness to accept that there is no rational explanation, even when you (I) really crave one.

StuckInTheSixties: She should write it down somewhere where it's easy to read.

(I assume she'd be talking about the "singularity" and the beginning of "space/time".)

Though I've never spoken with her, I'm pretty sure she doesn't have "THE BIG ANSWER," else there wouldn't be such a big effort within the scientific community to find it.

StuckInTheSixties: *scrolls up, reads the words "Science & Technology"*

Although there is ample evidence that we are, indeed, in the "Science & Technology" Forum, as an agnostic, I must acknowledge that there is a remote possibility that the evidence, although it meets all reasonable scientific criteria, might actually be wrong, and that we could, by some magic miracle, be in the Religion Forum instead.

It's not really too likely, but I have to acknowledge it as a possibility.

XFixYourBrainX: I can ask a similar question prove to me that there is a God, not that I doubt there isnt one, nor do I doubt there is one.

You may think that your theory is plausible, but in order for that theory to be plausible, there would have to be evidence to suggest there ever was a God. The only reason/one reason may be is people think there is a God because they believe there is one, even without seeing God they still believe there is one, if you take out belief what reason would there still be to think there is a God? Well possibly there really wouldnt be one I think.

I may not possibly ever find out what the truth is, but atleast I will be one of the people on this planet that helps the human race get closer to what the truth is. There is nothing wrong with looking for the truth even though we dont know what the truth entirely is. If we think that the truth is in front of us already such as science, religion, and etc..... well then what would make us want to further our knowledge?

Teece
Teece: Hmmm, good argument sixties - SOME people with Naturally Analytical minds might sway towards Atheism because of the influence of Science, but I'm sure there are others that just run out of faith because they are not getting anything back. NO, I don't mean material things that they have prayed for, more the "feel good, secure" kind of feeling.
They then may go looking for other rational explanations and, of course, these are provided by Science.

StuckInTheSixties: Well, that first long posting of mine was coming from the rational, analytical side of me. I do have an emotional side, as well.

When I look at the world around me, the wonder of it, the power of the mystery of existence, can be, at times, almost overwhelming. You know, when I see some beautiful natural setting, or a sunset, that sort of stuff, or hear some amazing orchestral performance or a powerful rock concert ripping through the audience ... those things really move me and rub that wonder in my face.

Sometimes what I've just described happens to me in mundance, random circumstances, too. I'm just driving down the road, lost in thought, and the wonder of existence pops into my mind and leaves me thinking, "Wow!"

Teece: Yes, I am a regular "Wow-er" lol. I take note and appreciate everything around me and love to wonder at how lucky I am. I don't need the crutch of religion or science to feel that - just good old Mother Nature and faith in humanity!

StuckInTheSixties: Hahaha! I don't have faith. In humanity, or otherwise.

Definitely not in humanity. If there was an "intelligent designer" (as those Creationist hypocrites like to refer to), s/he seems to have designed us to do lots of amazing things ... badly.
