Time Travel (Page 2)

slasian: You are still talking about time but what about place and reality of dimensions? Are they constraints of the human imagination too? Can our cognitive process affect the existence of a place in some certain time? Time travel is not just a journey in time; it is also a voyage between two places at the same location. Lets say Mr. x was in front of Ifle tower in Paris before he step in to his time machine and he travels back to 1453 and when he steps out of the machine the tower is not there but the place is the same in its location. Now he had certainly traveled in time and place but the location is the same and this can only be described as reality of dimensions in the sense of past, present and future. This is some thing beyond reality and the world as matter. And that’s why I had said may be an idealist doctor could answer the riddle of time travel.

slasian: Do you know there are some related stories in the oriental Bible? In the time of the Babylonians sage the prophet Isaiah send some good man to bring strawberry and that man fell asleep under a tree when he wake up the time was already 50 years ahead.

There is also the miracle of Joshua; he had stopped the time in a battle filled. It is written in the Bible. In many nations legend, time travel prevail- or some sort of it- and the concept is as old as mankind’s existence.

I think this time travel thing is nothing but a fable only to posses the minds’ of the modern time scientists.

wannamuse: Okay, back to science. Has anyone read The New Time Travelers, by David Toomey? I just picked it up. A good portion of the book is dedicated to theories supporting the existence of "negative energy." A property that Michio Kaku, and other physicists believe to be the only energy source capable of breaking the space-time barrier.

john1576: Wanna. I don't want to be a downer, but it ain't going to happen. Time was set in a forward motion by the Big Bang. Time does not stop, go backwards. You may be able to do things like go into cryogenic sleep and wake up 600 years from now. The New Universe opening up is the Virtual Reality Universe of the Internet. This will be a world where distance and time means nothing. But who knows, Wanna you may be right. But imagine having a Virtual Self in cyber space who sits at a VOIP call centre working in your place while you are lieing on the beach reading.

why wouldn't u think that there were any attemps that took place in the past or in the future? i don't think that because we didn't know about it, it didn't take place
and the thing about meeting the self, it's for sure it's not the same matter or mass

Einstein through his relativity theory showed that the time is cureved and moving forward through time—is possible... but u all think that moving backward seems the right thing but according to relativty it's not possible! maybe that's why we didn't see any future visits !

john1576: Maha. To understand what Einstein was saying about Time, you need to keep in mind he was not saying that you could 'travel' in time, but that Time has different aspects. Suppose you were in an automobile travelling along a road that came to the Grand Canyon in America. You would have to dip down into the Grand Canyon then rise up at the other side. Now perhaps you had a friend in a small aircraft flying overhead as you drove along. He would continue to fly ahead while you dipped and rose from the Grand Canyon, as a result he would be way ahead of you. Gravity has the same affect on time. If one person was in a field of immense gravity he would be pulled down so to speak while another person carried on outside the field of gravity. Time would be 'bent' so to speak.

zodmaster: time travel into the past is possible. there many ways to do this.
hi im the doctor. i got a tardis to. gravity is the key to time travel
without the ion sprectra. gravity could make u time travel without the
enershia of the g force. if you go to any black hole thats not active
thats a worm hole. in that hole gravity expands leaving the center mass
of the vesel ur in free. with the proper propulsion. you can travel
as far back to adam and eve. u can stop travel when ever u whant.
heres an example of the simple math to use. well wright to me at.

Scientists seem to be close

How are we going to protect ourselves?
Protection physically
Protection from influences of time travel (ie the past influences the future).

How is the public going to accept the idea?

How is the public going to be educated about the safety of the idea or will it be addressed?

Hence, the word 'imagination' in my previous post stands for its weaker forms (I know that imagination is the key to every thing and it is such a powerfull blessing that had made every thing possible) like dream, fancy or tall-tale.

donagh
donagh: time travel is not complicated if you simplify it what you have is a source that is converted into kanetic motion it also is possibel to travel back through time to a far back date in wich you can change the futuer wich would be the past so in effect by giving up a possibel past you gain an altered futuer but because of the alteration you would not be aware of the alteration as we would all know that it is possibel because of the new engine that produces the traveling speed of twice the speed of light wich enabels the travel into the past and the farback date is you can go this far back and alter the futter if you go one day further back to try to change it you would not have the engine in the futter that enabeled you to go back in the past to create the alteration so in effect by giving up a predetermined past and a possibel futter and by giving up a predetermined futter and a possibel past you gain new technology and the ability to travel forwareds and backwareds in time yet that is not reason enough to do it for a stabel alteration human society must be abel to extened the human life span and stop the ageing proccess and have a serum that stops diseses and cancer wich is much harder to do than time travel

travel back in time inject a human gunnie pig with proven serum in the futter so a new human experiance begins there is two factors in time travel 1 the excistance of a new human experiance
2 cease to excist of the unaltered you
by the alteration from the far back date september 7th 1997
example: people who gain

QUEENS MUM ALIVE because of antiageing serum
DONALD DEWAR ALIVE because of time travel

peolpe who loose

PRINCESS DIANA
GARY MC DONAGH
AUTHER GREEN

Because from the september 6th 1997 to the BIG BANG time travel was not possibel

And time travel became possibel because a source of energy was founed that used a source of magnatisim to produce kanetic force

from kanetic force you get M.P.H. OR M.P.S.
Wich uses the purisy form of energy ELECTRICITY

xXxtreme_J0kie_Smurf: Time travel, teleportaion as well as other sci-fi-like technology may be possible and maybe not. I think that some day it very well will be. Look at past cultures. They were able to do miraculous things without any technology at all. They did things thought impossible.
For example, stonehenge is built from stone that is found thousands of miles away from the site it's built on. At the time, they had no technology, no vehicles except horse back and not even enough people to pull together to try and haul stones of that size. Yet stonehenge stands and still exists today.
Concider how many projects are going on in secret. Stuff we won't know about until it's been in use for a dozen years first. Look at the invisibility cloak being developed. you won't find articles on the net about the finished product right now, but there are numerous videos and articles about the beta testing. There is a fully functional cloak in use right now. Originally thought impossible, and yet there it is.
Only time will tell. We will have to wait and see, but manipulating the force of time is not really that far off or as impossible as people might think.

XFixYourBrainX
XFixYourBrainX: Is Time Travel Possible? Not all scientists agree but according to Einstein and quantum theory, time travel could be possible. Is time travel possible? According to Einstein and quantum theory it could be.

Imagine sitting by the Statue of Liberty and watching dinosaurs play in Manhattan or walking on the headland round Botany Bay as Captain Cook arrives to claim the new land for King George and England. Would you keep quiet at the slave markets of Savannah or save Martin Luther King from the assassin's bullet? Time travel is everywhere in the media from Star Trek to Dr Who but what can science tell us about it? Is time travel possible?

Actually, time travel is happening all around us. Hold out your hand and every second a dozen or so tiny nuclear particles called cosmic ray muons will pass straight through you. These particles are too small to feel and sometimes do damage which your body repairs. Astronauts in space can die from too much cosmic ray damage which causes radiation sickness.

Cosmic ray muons are the debris from collisions high in the atmosphere. Stable nuclear particles from the sun and the stars collide with the atmosphere 20 km above the Earth. Traveling at the speed of light, about 300,000 kilometers per second, it should take these muons around seven millionths of a second to reach a person on Earth. The only problem is that muons only live for two millionths of a second and so should never reach someone standing on the ground. But Einstein's special theory of relativity claims that the muons travel through time to get to reach us.

TIME IS RELATIVE
According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, our lives pass more slowly if we travel close to the speed of light. He has also shown that we live longer if we go and live in an intense gravitational field. Einstein has thus opened up the future and shown that it is possible to slow down time for ourselves, leave the Earth and come back to meet our grandchildren or our great-grandchildren. But he has not shown that it is possible to come back! Physicist Steven Hawking has suggested that it is not possible to go back in time because you could kill your own grandmother before your mother or father were born and so make it impossible for you to be born.

But could it still be possible? It is impossible with our normal model of the world but some scientists have suggested that we inhabit a universe in which there are an infinite number of parallel worlds. So if you go back to the past and kill your grandmother, then you set off another parallel world in which you are not part of the future.

Others have suggested that if time travel into the past is possible then there will be time tourists around from the future visiting us in their past. No one has been known to have met such tourists. But that is not the whole story. There are lots of things that we do not understand that hint that time travel Star Trek fashion around the universe might be possible.

ENTANGLED PARTICLES
If we plunge down into the tiny world of nuclear particles, we know that two or more nuclear particles can be entangled together, which causes all sorts of strange 'quantum' effects. Entanglement is a property of the world of the very small when particles emerge from the same event. Two particles of light - or photons - can become entangled and oscillate one way or another across their direction of travel. Electrons, the particles of electricity, can be entangled spinning one way or another. If they emerge from the same event at the same time they are probably entangled.

XFixYourBrainX
XFixYourBrainX: Individually, these tiny particles merge many of their properties together and we can't be sure of a particular value unless we measure it. The weird thing about entanglement is that each particle knows what is happening to the other instantly and this can happen right across the universe. So if we have a pair of entangled electrons with different spins but with one disappearing into space, the spin of either is defined by a probability, but when we measure the local one, we instantly know the spin of the other! Somehow the information has traveled instantaneously to define the spin value of the disappearing electron. This is instant travel around the universe and we don't understand why. Perhaps there are more than three dimensions through which quantum effects communicate and these could be used for time travel.

In a similar way, just after the Big Bang there was a period of inflation when the universe suddenly grew far faster than the speed of light and spread far and wide. Perhaps this had something to do with interactions through extra dimensions, but we don't really know.

NIKURA
NIKURA: If only I could "unread" all the misinformed comments so I didn't feel the need to have to argue. Instead, I'm just going to summarise where I stand on this topic...

1. Wormholes/blackholes/space time "shortcuts". YES
2. Acceleration beyond light speed. YES
3. It won't work until it's turned ON, you can't go back further! YES

Take everything into consideration... time zones, the fact that time is faster on top of a skyscraper - 50 millionth of a second different every 15 years, but still... (essentially less gravity - slower passage of time)... it's an interesting topic that should only be discussed when you really read up on it. And I mean REALLY read up, not conspiracy books or "Ooh It's a Mystery Vol. 3".

Any astronauts on long missions are essentially time travellers. On return from their missions they are travelling into their "future" because time passes by at a slower rate in space due to reduced gravity (not ZERO-gravity - a void concept. There is ALWAYS gravity, no matter how little). Even the light we see from the sun is 8 minutes old. Is that light not travelling into the past when it arrives on earth?

SUCH a good topic. And I really need to go and prowl around my University library this week finding goodies to read.
