What is a "Woman?"

Crash
Crash: Matt Walsh did a documentary on this, I'm sure most of you are aware, turns out no one could really give a definitive answer as to WHAT a "woman" actually was. "Man", and "Woman" have really lost all their meaning. If "Man/Men" and "Woman/Women" are archetypes for "Adult human male" and "Adult human female" respectively, and we start to use them interchangeably, they are no longer archetypes and lose all explanatory power.

So, when person "X" says they identify as a "woman" they aren't actually describing anything, as the term has lost all intrinsic meaning. It literally means "whatever you want it to mean."

One could be the most "masculine man" on the planet, beard , big muscles, etc....yet all that is required for him to "be a woman" is to CLAIM he is.....never changing ANYTHING about his physical appearance.

In that situation there is no actual difference between a "MAN" and a "WOMAN" as they both present EXACTLY the same. I'm sure ya'll can see why this is problematic.
It destroys the NEED to even USE those terms....as, essentially, they are both the same.

Honestly it kind of reminds me of the Borg from Star Trek, but in a weird way. Everyone seems to want to be SOOOOOO "special/different" to stand out in their own way....yet in doing so, they have literally DESTROYED the things that make us different....thus essentially making us all the same/interchangeable.....the Borg.
When ya'll take your emotions out of it, and think about it logically, you would come to this same conclusion.

Srchng4Truth: I disagree with both of the above two statements: "If it's got a dick, it ain't a chick!

and

"A woman is a human being capable of bearing children. Everything else to do with it is a by-product of the evolutionary process."

If you surgically put a penis on a woman, is she no longer a woman?

If a woman is born infertile or become infertile, is she no longer a woman?

What if a "woman" doesn't have the necessary "plumbing"? Is she then not a woman?

Srchng4Truth: This is not a one way discussion. This is about what gender is, and how it is determined. It is not solely about "believing men can be women", but just as much about the opposite, can what we consider biological women be men?

Angry Beaver: Is it possible tochange one's gender?
No. Humans cannot change sex, which was determined at fertilization (genotype) and during embryonic development (phenotype). People may change many features about their lives, such as their interests, hobbies, diet, friends or careers. However, some facts are unalterable.

Srchng4Truth: If only one source was the ultimate word on everything. I understand that you are unlikely to change your beliefs regarding this. People most often have desires to see things certain ways, including myself. I am fine with you believing what you believe. Obviously, you are not alone.

I actually do believe there is one source which is the ultimate word on everything. Unfortunately, in my belief system and in my experience that source, God, doesn't jump on wire to settle discussions like these.

shadowline: If a woman is born infertile or becomes infertile, then she is a human being intended by nature to be able to bear children, with whom something has gone sadly wrong. That doesn't make her not a woman, it makes her a woman who has had the misfortune to be denied the opportunity to do what nature intended her for.

shadowline: From nature's point of view, Srchng, you could just about say that. But of course I don't say it. I just say that bearing children is essential to womanhood, as fathering them is essential to men. It's a misfortune to have to go without it, but, everything else to do with womanhood remains - like relating to a man emotionally. I also say that no one without a womb is a woman, no matter what surgery they undergo, or what pills they take.

bonzono: overlooking the issue relevant to trans people here, which is how they are regarded by society.

What's fascinating is that at least some of the women you see on the street, are biologically male, and you can't tell the difference - you will, however, regard them as female.

perhaps the overarching question here is, if you're looking for a life partner, does it really matter?
humans have the means, and ethics to allow anyone of any gender to have children the only difference is in the details of conception and birth, and let's face it, for most blokes the conception stage takes a few minutes, and they have nothing to do with the gestation and birth, which comprise about 4% of a person's life until their an adult and less than a percent of their entire lives. So why does gender ever matter anyhow?

perhaps the actual question we should be focusing on is - do you really care about other people's gender, and is the reason you actually care valid in the 21st century?
