Would the devil smell of roses? I think it would smell of rancid sweat & smoky, maybe like burning rubber but I’ve never smelt it. It doesn’t make sense for one who sincerely believes in God but doesn’t trust Him. I think there must be a momentary lapse in judgment, likely caused by deep emotional stress. In that state, remembering to trust isn't easy but if you can manage it, the wisdom will be revealed.

The reverse is factually the case. Increased stress: financial, personal, civil, leads to increased religiosity.
Religiosity IS a lapse in reason (see the argument re. 'i proved a tree making fairy'), there is no reasonable way to conclude a god is real, therefore, the only way one can become religious is to suspend both reason and honesty.
Zan, this is not an emotive argument, it's not subjective - there is NO logical path to god, at all. You cannot reason that gis is anything other than imagined. Religion is, by definition, unreasonable. Ask me if you're unclear how.

Just because something isn’t physically evident doesn’t mean it’s “absurd.” Not everything is going to be handed to you on a platter. You have to do a little work which apparently is foreign to you.

Emotions, spirituality and G-d DO exist. Doesn’t matter if they’re physical. Some things don’t exist in a physical realm but they DO in fact exist and you cannot prove otherwise.
