If God exists, where is he? (Page 2)

ghostgeek: Cloud, I'll confess here and now that I'm not a big believer in gods, so it's probably best if we don't continue this conversation.

Zanjan: God is Spirit. He exists in a realm that’s placeless, timeless, and eternal.
Although we can’t see Him directly, we can see His ways, feel His presence, listen to His Voice, recognize His attributes and the bounties He has showered upon us. He sends confirmations and let’s us know if we’ve pleased Him or not.

God created all things in existence just for us and our pleasure but, for Himself, He chose only the hearts of men. Thus, He staked His claim on you.

Where God dwells:

“O SON OF BEING!
Thy heart is My home; sanctify it for My descent. Thy spirit is My place of revelation; cleanse it for My manifestation.”
~ Bahá'u'lláh

"SON OF BEING!
Thou art My lamp and My light is in thee. Get thou from it thy radiance and seek none other than Me. For I have created thee rich and have bountifully shed My favor upon thee."
~ Bahá'u'lláh

Zanjan: Ghost, prayers aren't supposed to produce *your* desired result. One shouldn't pray for things that are against the Will of God.

One invokes God to obtain His wisdom and understanding, to guide one to that which is in one's best interest. One prays because they don't know what is right or best so how could they have a particular result in mind? Requests must be accompanied by personal action.

Other reasons to pray are to calm fears, engage serenity, clear the mind, and to express one's love and gratitude to Him.

One day, Baha'ullah was walking in the countryside and came across a peasant man, making strange repetitive motions over a bowl. He asked the man "What are you doing?' The man replied "I'm eating God". Baha'u'llah smiled, saying "Come, let me show you the way".

ghostgeek: Okey dokey, now we're getting to what's got me fretting. This here realm where God's supposed to exist. Where IS it?

ghostgeek: People talk about God as though he's always been around, but where, exactly, has He been riding out eternity? To say He occupies a "placeless" realm is utterly meaningless, because everything that existences exists somewhere.

Zanjan: "This here realm where God's supposed to exist. Where IS it?"

I explained that it's not the physical realm, which contains only 3 dimensions.

" where, exactly, has He been riding out eternity? "

The way dimensions work -> the greater they are, the deeper they get. Your mind is barely on the cusp of the 4th dimension yet you think you can comprehend something so high above you?

I think the God you prefer would be nicely packaged in a vase somewhere on an altar.

ghostgeek: There might be a million dimensions but they would still have to "be" somewhere.

Zanjan: Not the somewhere you're thinking of. Seriously, you must have spent too much time with those who believe they own that vase; and they don't like it when someone tries to steal it from them!

Zanjan: You once said your mother was a worshiper.

God doesn't "hang" anywhere, which implies He's part of existence. How absurd! Each dimension is larger than the one beneath it and He embraces all of it.

ghostgeek: If God came before everything else, I can't see how He can be part of existence. And it still doesn't explain where He, existence and anything else you care to name hang out.

Zanjan: To the previous post: There you go - something you don't know.

Yes, God is pre-existent. You couldn't even imagine what that's like. You're just the painting on the canvas.

Zanjan: The years ahead aren't my concern. Today is.

Seriously though, prayer should be every day - you utter words every day. Some of them should be directed to God. He is MY quality of life and I'll continue to take that relationship with me wherever I go and when my years are up.

They don't let you have cider in the hospital.
