Are homosexual natures created by nurture, nature, or God?

Are homosexual natures created by nurture, nature, or God?

I think the answer is is quite important as it would show us the cause/source of homosexuality.

If God, as believers think, then why is God creating gays?

shadowline: Those who believe in the God of the Bible would be inclined to say that God doesn't create homosexuals, anymore than he creates embezzlers, inveterate liars, or street thugs. God creates human beings, and human beings are a race with whom things can go wrong. Very wrong, in some unfortunate cases.

Apart from religious belief, our sciences don't seem to know exactly what makes a person homosexual - it could be biology, but no one has ever proved that; it could be psychology, but no one has ever described a universal model of that either.

It is, of course, extremely unpopular at the moment to maintain that homosexuality is anything other than a form of sexual race: inborn, physical in basis, and nature's way. But that seems to be more a fashion than a result of empirical knowledge. Until someone finds a gay gene, or something just as good, and all of medical and biological science is convinced of it, we can only say that what doesn't seem to be harming anyone, needn't be condemned.

Zanjan: I concur, except for this last phrase:

“we can only say that what doesn't seem to be harming anyone, needn't be condemned.”

Who is to say what harm is being caused? What vision encompasses all situations, relatives, friends, strangers, and generations? Who can correctly assess the full impact of a single behaviour in this milieu?

If history has taught us anything, it’s that we humans don’t know what’s good for ourselves.

From the earliest days of our lives, we need training, learning, guidance and personal discipline. Who among us is born with safe passage and maintains that? Most of our learning comes through mistakes while the rest of it is done the hard way.

Learning isn't easy; it can be very painful. When someone says "I didn't ask for this", the truth is they did, albeit they haven't recognized that yet.

Zanjan: Let’s take a straight look at nature.

To begin with, we’ve observed, in all body structures, the law that *form follows function*. Males and females have apparatus that fit together for the purpose of procreation; ergo, THIS is nature’s way, the instinctive use of the body.

In the animal world, the drive to mate runs the gamut from mild to powerful; there’s a whole range of libido. Some animals ( mostly apes) use sexual allure to socially ingratiate themselves to the powerful for protection, or demonstrate signs of approval for the sake of peace.

Sometimes, an animal experiences such an overwhelming urge, if it can’t find a mate, it forces release by using any object or species available. This is true for both males and females. Very young animals are inexperienced so must sort out these urges on their own. There’s no one to teach them.

Are humans animals? Only when they’re in the wild. They’re intended to become civilized if they’re to live in a large society. They’re taught all things; consequently, whatever they do has been influenced by their given environment.

Everyone knows young people demand attention and have a need to seek approval. They’re exploring who they are and trying to find a place where they will fit in. This is natural as long as it’s allowed to flow naturally in its own time; if it’s forced or there is pressure, problems arise.

For some, if their desires aren’t met via conventional means, they'll look for individuals and a group that will cater to their needs and accord them approval. Rebels want to be different – they want to stand out in a crowd; instinctively, one chooses the easiest path, the one they've had the most success with.

So, here’s the beginning of divergence from natural to unnatural.

Zanjan: History has shown us time and again how a civilization goes bad and ultimately crumbles, being overtaken and replaced by a new civilization. We can literally watch the dynamics as they happen in our own generation.

If society condones a perverted behaviour, it becomes normalized and treated as being completely natural. Yet nobody has to constantly justify what’s natural. We can say these questions are nobody’s business but if one is on the defensive or repeatedly calling attention to their own sexual situation, that’s the clue something isn’t natural or right either with one’s self or society.

Who sets the spiritual and moral standard? God directed us to upright conduct – that disappears whenever irreligion prevails. When the religious community becomes corrupt, it leaks people; the religion bleeds to death. Those who’ve walked out the door return to the wild and lose their bearings. Thus, the beacon of light goes out and ships crash on the rocks. Disempowered, all of society goes down.

The result is confusion, persisting so long that society can’t recollect what actually caused their issues; thus, there’s no way to fix them. The damage is done and the sickness too advanced to heal.
