(Post deleted by Apokalupto ) edmund_carey: Christian exegetes accept that the learned and devout Jews who translated the Septuagint were correct when they drew out the meaning "virgin" from the Hebrew word "almah" (aspirated), which normally just means "young unmarried woman", by using the Greek word "parthenos", which means technically virgin, to render it, at Matthew 1:23. The evangelists, who were Greek literate Jews, regarded the Septuagint as Scripture, and Christianity has kept to that tradition ever since.
