Cenababy: Baptism- Catholic and Protestants.
Infant baptism is the practice of baptising infants or youngchildren. In theological discussions, the practice is sometimes referred to as paedobaptism, or pedobaptism, from the Greek pais meaning "child".

Even though the words baptism and christening are used interchangeably, there is a subtle difference. Christening refers to the naming ceremony (to "christen" means to "give a name to" where as baptism is one of seven sacraments in the Catholic Church.

What happens at a babies baptism…..A person being baptized in the Catholic Church is expected to dress in white to symbolize purity of faith and the cleansing power of Baptism. ... Like the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Orders, as a Catholic, you're baptized just once. These three sacraments confer an indelible mark on your soul.
They also name a God Mother and God Father in the event that something happens to either parent.
When I was christened, My Mom’s brother was named my God Father and her half sister my God Mother….

****The Churches of Christ," Jehovah's Witnesses, Christadelphians, and LDS Church also espousebaptism as necessary for salvation. For Roman Catholics, baptism by water is a sacrament of initiation into the life of the children of God (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1212–13). Godparent. ... In churches mandating a sponsor only one godparent is required; two (in most churches, of different sex) are permitted. Many Protestant denominations permit but do not require godparents to join the infant's natural parents as sponsors. In the Roman Catholic Church godparents must be of the Catholic faith.

Cenababy: Do Protestants Get Baptized? Protestants do get baptized and they generally agree that baptism is a holy sacrament symbolic of dying to sin and becoming a new creation in Christ. (Born again, in water and holy spirit).
U.S. Roman Catholic Church And Protestant Denominations Agree To Recognize Each Other's Baptisms. ... The event coincides with the national meeting of Christian Churches Together in the U.S.A. Currently, the Protestant churches recognize Roman Catholic baptisms, but the Catholic church does not always recognize theirs. HOW SAD!!!! You see how Catholics are towards Protestants, interestingly enough one of the reasons why is, Catholics have LAWS “just to be catholic”, Protestants don’t and accept others. Protestants being mainstream Christianity do have criteria they follow, a belief system that “most” Christians hold to, there are certain beliefs that “all Christians” should hold to in order to claim oneself as “Christian”, off Sects such as JW, SDA, LDS, MORMONS, ETC., do not fall under the guise of “Christian” as their beliefs are not the same as Christians nor do they follow the bible as "most christians do", some even have their own book they follow, and they do not have the belief systems Protestants do.

Zanjan: "do not fall under the guise of “Christian” as their beliefs are not the same as Christians"

That's your opinion of them. If one asks *them*, they say they're Christian and hold the Bible up to your face, reciting passages they think are the most important, particularly about salvation. They say Jesus Christ is their Lord. Am I gonna tell them they're lying?

I call them door-knockers or Bible thumpers, not unbelievers. These religious groups wouldn't have lasted five minutes if they weren't riding the coat tails of Christianity. The denomination doesn't matter, its WHO one actually believes in, which will quickly be proven out.

For example, a few days ago, an Evangelist pastor was arrested, along with others for running a child porn ring. Got it on hidden camera. We see where the beliefs of the baptized can take them. Yet we can hardly denounce all pastors or Evangelists for the sins of one man.

Baptism is the community celebration of an individual's decision to accept Christ as their Lord, approving him/her to join membership in this particular church. I know individuals who've been baptized several times, each time in a different church.

While Jesus invited John to baptize Him in the river, this was in recognition of John's Prophethood and support for bringing the disillusioned back into the fold. Jesus let His own disciples baptize those who desired it but He never prescribed it as a ceremony; there's no record of Christ performing the ritual.

Zanjan: You know, we all have have things on our mind but we have to be selective in what we share. We need to think before we speak, asking ourselves to name our aim and what we hope to accomplish by the sharing. We discuss things here openly because we HAVE been selective.

In other words, having an opinion on all these different church denominations is a far cry from letting that escape your lips. It's not news.

Folks can think for themselves. If we openly denounce a denomination or any religion, we're engaging in divisiveness, which creates doubts; that leads to strife and contempt, ultimately injuring people's faith. No one escapes the consequences.

So, I offer this thought: what does it mean to be the leaven of the world?
Here are the questions: 1. how do we raise ourselves? 2. How do we lift others?
