Matthew 25:40 explicitly denounces Donald Trump, discuss.

chronology: Geoff, fans of Politics can make the Gospels suit any brand of Politics. There was no Prime Minister who loved quoting Jesus more than Margret Thatcher. 'To him that has shall more be given, and to him that has not even what he has shall be taken away from him and given to him that has more' . Yes, Maggie and her fans in the Clergy loved their 'Ten Tallents' parable.

Mr Trump has a unbroken moneterist history of leaving a very chaotic wake behind his ship of business. When he leaves Office, Americans will have heaps of work to do repairing the damage.

Geoff: There's few as unambiguous passages in the bible.

The thrust here was how one consolidates adherence to the Christian faith with support of the current US administration. Because, I was raised Christian and it still plays a large presence in my moral judgement. And Trump is so far from Christian that he can't see it with a telescope.

chronology: Geoff, unfortunately organised Christianity has led the Western World in keeping women and workers as dumbed down and subservient as possible. It has always supported the most reactionary and exploitive Governments in the U.S.A.

The U.S. ceased being the force for good and progress in the Western World when the 'Christian Right' (neither Christian nor Right) took over the Republican Party in 1980. They turned the GOP into the chaotic 'Cult' it is today. Some folks wonder what happened to the GOP of Dwight Eisenhower, of Richard Nixon. The GOP was an outstanding Party of dedicated professionals, educated, hard working with a will for progress and freedom in the world. It has become a religious nut house with crazy deluded Right Wing Evangelicals pushing it into all kinds absurd policies.

Geoff: They were certainly the deciding factor in Trump being both selected in the primaries and elected. Especially since Jesus had a lot more to say against divorce (which Trump has done twice; imagine the field day he'd have had if Obama had five children by three different women) than the sort of thing they're looking to Trump to ban (homosexuality and women's reproductive rights spring to mind).

He's attempting to violate the US constitution. He's definitely violating the bible. But the most ardent supporters he has are still the Evangelical Right Wing. The person who is perhaps my best friend is a vicar, and she is utterly horrified by what is going on in the White House.

I mean, King George wasn't a nice guy. He was a Shakespearean horror story to be honest. But considering what you guys voted in... No. We want to put as much ground between us as possible.

chronology: Hey, it is not all bad news. Folks in Dixie just voted in a Democrat in the last Tennessee Elections, and Southerners are becoming shocked at the low wages and high poverty in the Southern States. They are fine people, and deserve better wages and better lives. And no way will they get either with a GOP dominated South.
Southerners are getting organised, they are supporting the Democrats, real Democrats not 'Dixie Democrats' who are more Right wing than Northern Republicans.

The Gay issue is a complicated one Geoff, so is the Abortion issue. Americans have a strong view on 'Right and Wrong' . But people need to remember that there is a seperation of Church and State.

Geoff: The US political system is more broken than most democracies. You're down to two parties (with minor parties providing some laughs in the elections, "What's an Aleppo?"

Both sides need to split up into their own niches. Until then, you're going to have to deal with divisive presidents.

45 is at least making George W Bush look properly presidential. And that's something.

Geoff: Abortion isn't an issue. Proper sex-ed, universal access to effective contraceptives, and abortion would be a total non-issue.

Of course, in the teen-pregnancy-belt, oh sorry, the bible belt, talking about sex with your children is haram. It's also the meth belt, because the same applies to drugs.

chronology: If you say so, but the U.S. has no more issues than any other major country. 'Multi Party' options is no choice for America. States have their own Rights and can elect whoever they want, so they have freedom there. Scotland during the Thatcher era went out and voted almost to a man for a Labour Government, what they got was a none stop slash and cut Tory Government, hardly democratic.

National Unity is an important factor. And American is still the flag bearer for Democracy and Human Rights.

Geoff: Your president threatened the UN. He refused to accept a democratic vote of the general assembly. He claimed to have won the popular vote at the election he won. He claimed to have the largest crowd for his inauguration.

The US is important to the world. And your current head of state is an embarrassment to you.

His inauguration day was a very glum day indeed. It reminded me of Lady Thatchers funeral. Personally I was not surprised at all at the streets full of people who burst out laughing when her coffin went past, or the people blowing rasberries, it should have been a Private Funeral like every other P.M.

chronology: Geoff, Americans do not really keep politics in mind as much as most other people do. Today, Americans will be heading for their Gym to meet with friends and work out, they will be pounding the tarmac on their favourite Jogging route, visiting family and friends, socialising on the Web, meeting people at social gatherings etc, the last thing they will be thinking about is Mr Trump.
When they do think about Mr Trump, the most important factor is 'the bottom line' what is his Tax Policy. Unless he says or does something extreme most Americans just leave him to his business. The most important factor in any American Political discussion is the 'Tax lines' . Americans do not like extremists, so far Mr Trump has avoided being extreme.

What do you mean by 'American Christians' ? Catholics? Baptists? Methodists? Pentecostals? All the sects have different views about Mr Trump. Yes some do see him as a bully to vulnarable immigrants, others see him as a much needed remedy for out of control immigration. They all have different views.

Geoff: Evangelicals, which is predominantly variants of Protestantism. However, they all read from the same bible with minor variations in translation, perhaps, but the crux of Jesus' teachings are the same in each.

I don't even think it's about the tax policy; the recent change to taxes will actively harm the majority of Americans, certainly those who voted for him. It is what they are told the taxes will do from whichever brand of anti-intellectual news service they choose to follow.

chronology: Geoff, agreed a 100pc about Americans being sold a 'Pig in the Poke' Tax Reform. But hey Donald is a master of this kind of thing. Working families in America will be shafted by the recent Tax Reforms in about 6 years, but they never noticed or cared about that.

'Evangelicals' are a mixed bunch. From the 'happy clappy' sing and dance crows, to the Southern Community Churches who are more settled. The most insane Evangelicals are the 'Mega Church' crowd. Their leaders have called for everything from murdering Latin American Leaders, to Atomic Bombing Iran in a surprise attack for Israel.

Geoff:

I wasn't so much complaining about Trump, as about the illiterati so vehemently supporting him in direct contravention of their religious faith. But since these people barely comprehend English, I am not surprised they only use the bible to support their own bigotry and not actually take any lessons from it. Of course, they don't understand democracy or their own constitution either; so I suppose that's just par for the course.
