Is Jesus mentioned in Genesis?

Cenababy
Cenababy: Is Jesus mentioned in Genesis?
Let’s take Genesis for instance:
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Let’s see, Let US make man in OUR image, he could he be talking about or to? If we look at John 1 we can get a clear meaning The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit.
Further in Genesis, another mention: Genesis 3:5
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.”
Let’s discuss meaning here: who is the seed and the woman, “her seed, is her offspring, Jesus”, who is “the woman”? Mary
Let’s look further: I will make you and the woman enemies to each other. Your children and her children will be enemies. You will bite her child’s foot, but he will crush your head.”

Cenababy: So this passage is not just talking satan, I don’t believe, let’s look further to see:
and I will put enmity] The first meaning of this sentence refers to the instinctive antipathy of mankind towards the serpent, and the frequently deadly character of the wounds inflicted by serpents upon human beings.

But this explanation does not exhaust the full meaning of the verse. The narrator tells the story, not in the spirit of a compiler of folk-lore, but with the purpose of embodying in it the truths of religion. The hostility between the serpent and the woman, between the serpent’s seed and the woman’s seed, typifies the unending conflict between all that represents the forces of evil on the one hand, and all that represents the true and high destiny of mankind on the other. Upon this antagonism Jehovah has, as it were, set His seal from the very beginning. He has ordained it. There must be war between every form of evil and the children of man, (children of God). This verse has been called the Protevangelium. There is no prediction of a personal victor, or even of an ultimate victory. Commentators used to see in the words, “thou shalt bruise his heel,” a prediction of the sufferings and crucifixion of our Lord, as “the seed” of the woman; and in the words, “it shall bruise thy head,” the victory of the Crucified and Risen Son of Man over the forces of sin and death. We are not justified in going to the full length of this interpretation. The victory of the Cross contains, in its fullest expression, the fulfilment of the conflict, which God here proclaims between Mankind and the symbol of Evil, and in which He Himself espouses the cause of man. The Conflict and the Victory are oracularly announced. But there is no prediction of the Personal Messiah.

Cenababy: Having said the above, let me add:
If we research, i think it's clear, it is Jesus, and the fight is between Jesus (his people) and Satan (the world, not belonging to God) hence the seeds.

Zanjan: Jesus isn't mentioned in the Old Testament - everybody knows that. Genesis speaks about Moses's forebearers - the 20 Patriarchs.

Luke traces the physical genealogy of Jesus back to Adam as being the Son of Man = son of Adam. However, the *spiritual* lineage of Christ goes back to Adam, Himself, as the Son of God, according to tradition. The same was true of Moses and Abraham because Jesus was descended from Them. Yet neither Abraham, Moses or Jesus referred to themselves as a Son of God - that term was from the human perspective.

Jesus describes His return by likening it to the Days of Noah. Mathew 24:37- 40

"As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left."

No mention of the religion of those men; obviously, one of them is a true believer in God and all His Prophets.

mmickey782: ---->Zanjan is incorrect!
from the Old testament to the new testament everything point to Jesus... in fact Jesus told the jewish leaders...you search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life and these are they which testify of me. john 5:39……
the scriptures they had was the toral.. toral point to Jesus! Jesus was saying he is the focus of both the old and new testament, the scriptures of israel. Jesus declared himself the focus of “Truth”,

Zanjan: "the fact that Israel/ Jerusalem/ the Holy Temple is East and that is the direction we face when we pray."

Only if you don't live east of Israel, or north or south of it. What direction do you turn when you're standing IN Israel? That depends on what religion one professes, right?

Zanjan: It would be better if individuals investigated scripture independently and derived their own understanding - that way, they can't be led astray or deceived. We have the power of Free Will - who would not use this power, knowing they have it? How do we apply this power?

What else could the serpent in the tree have been if not the reflection of SELF? Isn't it the Self that uses this power? Eve wasn't punished for making an error, she was punished for passing the buck.

In effect, what she's saying in response to God is, if you hadn't made the serpent, this never would have happened. ACK, who is this person, now suggesting God had made a mistake??? So God made the serpent to crawl on its belly like a snake.

If we refused to look at God - how would we know HIM? Likewise, if we refused to look at our own selves, how could we recognize our selves? Eve looked at herself and what did she see?

When we make an error, we own our errors, don't we? That's called being true to one's self and God. But if we adopt someone else's error, then we've denied liability, passed blame to another, and shirked personal responsibility - God doesn't accept that excuse. The whole effort will boomerang.

Zanjan: I don't speak against learning of any kind. FYI, it's not possible to "learn" as a group, only to be given information. Nobody can learn another.

I've attended many religious classes, workshops, institutes and summer schools, myself - I understand the importance of community because we're champions of a Cause. We're co-workers in a great adventure so we know the benefits of hearing new stories, offering support, and brainstorming solutions. We don't write exams - we live them and pray for tests, sent by God.

The religions of God are schools - there's no difference in that system of education. Instruction is given by God through their Lord, the Divine Physician and Teacher. All others are lesser teachers, who's main purpose is to "introduce" the teachings, not formulate them. Yes, God loves pairs....yet there are times we must perform something alone.

When humans are the teachers, there's a huge variation in presentation and teaching methods. As in every school system, teachers are expected to stick to the curriculum and not run off the deep end, doing whatever they want and insisting students adopt the teacher's persuasions.

If only believers had stuck to the rules, religion would have remained pure and not got corrupted.

Zanjan: " A little extreme isn't it? "

Name any field and you'll find extremists. Results depend on which end of the extreme they're on. Holiness and wickedness are the extremes in the field of religion.

I understand you weren't promoting Rashi - I took it as an amusing anecdote. One can certainly put any spin on a Biblical story - it happens that ordinary folks don't write theirs down and almost never get quoted or have their quotes added to books of scripture. I could find common ground with Rashi by viewing the serpent (which has self identity) as any believer in a religious tree.

I'm not against reading commentaries - right now, I'm reading the "Bible for Dummies" for sheer entertainment; also to refresh my memory of another religion's scriptures.

Perhaps you can give an example of how one can learn from somebody's questions. If one has questions, they lack the knowledge. One shouldn't go to the gravel pit to drink water.
